To be honest, I don't have a problem with romance in official Scooby Doo media as long as it's done well and not taken too far and i'm gonna assume that Shelma is Shaggy and Velma ,lol. I wouldn't know much about fanfics. I don't read fanfics as I heard they can be very messed up. Yes, Shaphne is very popular in the Scooby-Doo fanbase (and yes, Shelma is Shaggy and Velma) . Being a fanfiction writer myself, I'll just say that there are definitely some messed up fanfics out there. However, there are just as many which are incredibly well-written and very on-character/consistent with the show. I try to make all of mine as similar to whatever show/film I'm writing about as I can, as if it were just another regular episode that was going about business as usual. I can recommend a few good Scooby fanfics (including my own if you like, lol) if you're interested in trying. As a side note, one of my fanfics does hint at Shaphne somewhat, though it's incredibly subtle and more left up to reader interpretation, rather than the in-your-face relationships that a lot of fanfics try to push. P.S. Just looked at the poll options and was like "Who put the murder spree option?", then went to the beginning of the thread and saw I was the one who created it...what was seven years ago me thinking lol? Hopefully, who ever chose the "Murder spree option" was joking, lol ! I guess I'll check yours out and if I like them you could recommend more. Also, what is your opinion on Shaphne and do you have a preference to who is with who?

Also, what is your opinion on Shaphne and do you have a preference to who is with who? Sure, I hope you enjoy them! "Coast to Coast with Daphne Blake" is the Shaphne one, though where the story is right now (both fanfics are still a work in progress aka I'm still actively writing new chapters for them), and it's a continuation of Zombie Island. The gang is still split up because of their boredom with the monsters always being fake; and the fanfic is centered around Daphne's show, Coast to Coast with Daphne Blake. She's attempting to continue to find documented proof of real monsters, after her camera was lost in quicksand towards the end of Zombie Island. "Fangs for the Memories" is a continuation of Ghoul School, seeing what the girl ghouls' lives are like five years after Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy taught at Grimwood's. None of the gang has made appearances yet, though I'm leaving it open as a possibility. However, the fanfic does mainly revolve around the ghouls, specifically Sybella, and has them dealing with a major change occurring at Grimwood's. I hope you enjoy both of them, and please let me know what you think! As a side note, since you said you visited my other site/blog ScoobySnax, there's a page on the side navigation bar which says "Scooby Fanfiction," which would be the other fanfics I would recommend if you enjoy mine. Many of them are written by people who are members on this forum. None of them are too weird, and I've given them all my personal seal of approval lol. My opinion of Shaphne has evolved over the years. In honesty, before I had always thought that shipping Shaphne was a bit ridiculous, as it was never really mentioned in the show. I also found a few Shaphne fans' theories to be ridiculous; the joke that I like to use with people for that is "Daphne and Shaggy looked in each others' eyes for 2.7 seconds, that MUST mean they're in love!" While I still don't see strong connection to it in the show (other than sort of the fact that they spent a lot of time together in the 1983-1985 episodes with Scrappy), I do agree that if it were done right, they could be a really cute couple. I really don't have a preference of who is with who. I suppose, if I were to ship someone, it would probably be Fraphne, but lord knows that hasn't been handled well in the past few years. I think the whole Scooby fandom simultaneously cringed when Daphne said "I think I'm in love with Fred!" in Stage Fright, just because they've explored that same exact thing before in other movies, yet they chose to conveniently forget about it for this movie only. Currently, it doesn't feel like we're really going anywhere with that relationship, it just feels like we're in an endless loop of "Daphne has a crush on another guy, Fred gets jealous, Daphne apologizes at the end and Fred's okay, and then we start the cycle all over again for the next film!" Like with Shaphne, I think Fraphne could make a cute couple if handled right, though the writers haven't found how to handle it right. Their relationship in Witch's Ghost (my mind turns to the scene where Daphne asks why Fred always splits up with her, and he changes the subject) was handled very well, and I think if they handled it that way in the future, I could definitely ship them! Shelma I have very mixed feelings on. Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated handled it horribly, to the point where they made Velma seem like a controlling b*tch. They made her so out of character that it was very difficult to watch that relationship. Overall, I much prefer to focus on the mystery-solving aspect of the show rather than shipping people. If relationships are going to be added, they should be very subtle and non-obtrusive to the plot. How about you?

The subtlty of Shaphne is exactly why it and Frelma are the third most popular pairings in the fanbase. It was never really mentioned, but hinted at as long as Joe Barbera was still alive during Scooby productions and of course up through Samurai Sword as it was still WNSD. Phantosaur kinda rebooted things to "relationships might be speculative but popular kids only date popular kids and rejects only date rejects mentality of the general fanbase."
Still Mystery firet, romance later.

The writing is just fantastic and it really seems like an official Scooby Doo media and a continuation of Zombie Island is an A in my book ! Honestly can't wait for the next chapter. "Fangs for the Memories" is good, though i'm not as interesting as since the gang isn't really in the fic, though I'll keep reading to see if your able to get me hook, lol. Also the writing is fang-tastic, just as good as Coast to Coast! I'll definitely check out the other recommend fics on your blog.
Now to the main part of this thread, I'm personally a Shaphne fan. I find that both characters have more related in common than Fred and Daphne or Velma and Shaggy. I will admit when I found out that people would get excited when Daphne would be next to Shaggy in one scene and everybody would say they were a couple is a little funny! Personally though I'm not super huge on the whole romance thing to begin with. I prefer Shaphne, but if a series or movie does Fraphne, I won't get upset and say this is the worst episode or movie. To me romance is an added bonus as long as done properly and not done in a way it distract me from the main story. Shelma though is a little different. I'm not a big supporter of that one. When the writer were creating Mystery Incorporated and when they decided to make Daphne and Fred a thing they probably thought that Shaggy and Velma should have someone as well and so they kinda just through them together, which I think was super lazy. I would've prefered if they would have just picked someone from Scooby Doo history to be with Shaggy or Velma.
Overall I prefer Shaphne and Fred and Velma, (not sure what to call that one lol), as a couple, but I'm not to picky on whoever the writers pick as long as done well and not to over the top and dramatic. I think the mystery should come first and if the writers want to add in romance it should be after.

Also about how Fraphne has been handled the last few years I think I might have an explanation for that one. After Mystery Incorporated ended everything has been more comedic and goofy. The writers don't want to make the movies or series to serious or have much drama between the character, but at the same time they want to keep Daphne and Fred a thing, so they decided to write one of the characters, usually Daphne, getting jealous because the other sees someone else. The writers think this is funny, so they keep doing that. The problem is when they keep doing it every movie it gets old and will eventually annoy the viewer. That just my theory of why they keep doing that for Fred and Daphne.

That just my theory of why they keep doing that for Fred and Daphne. That makes me so happy that you liked it that much! I'm guessing you already read through chapter 14 of Coast to Coast, then? If so, all I'll say about the next chapter's release date is that the 20th anniversary of Zombie Island is coming up soon! No worries about "Fangs for the Memories," not everyone is going to love everything and I realize that I probably alienated a lot of fans by not including the gang. The first few chapters are meant to be more exploratory and focusing on getting to know/relate to the adolescent version of the ghouls, though I plan for the plot to certainly pick up within the next few chapters. I hope I'm able to get you hooked! And thank you for that "fang-tastic" pun, every review of anything Ghoul School related needs to include one of Sybella's puns lol. Here's a link to the page I'm talking about. scoobysnax1.weebly.com/scooby-fanfiction.html There is another Ghoul School-themed one on the bottom, which I've actually helped edit and proofread for a bit. I would agree that Shaphne is a good pairing, though I can't say I have a favorite between Shaphne or Fraphne. If it's done right, I don't mind it, but as I said I'm not into romances or shipping and more focused on the mystery part, so to be honest it doesn't really matter to me. I found it to be very lazy as well in SDMI, especially how they wrote it. It seemed like they were just forcing it to work by completely changing Velma's character, rather than coming up with a believable and non-obtrusive way they could date each other. Fred and Velma is called "Frelma" haha, we have names for I think every combo of characters. "Velmaphne" is I believe Velma and Daphne, and I think "Fraggy" is Fred and Shaggy (the alternative, "Shed," sounds really bad lol)? Not too many people ship them obviously, though I've seen a few people say they ship those pairings. The Daphne getting jealous of Fred thing has gotten SO old, I cringe almost every time I see it now. It was barely funny once, and now that they've done it 10+ times now it's just gotten painful.

I always loved the Daphne/Shaggy duo (or the Daphne/Shaggy/Scooby trio) but, for a strange reason that i couldn't explain, i feel the "Be cool closeness" very forced.

I think the problem with Be Cool's Shaphne feels like it's trying to blend the natural HB with the slightly unnatural WB tone. Daphne doesn't seem to actually be good friends with Shaggy anymore. Even pretending to be Shaggy's girl felt faker than it should have...they even had Daphne go so far as to HARM Scooby. Daphne would never ever do that. She is the one who said to Scooby "man's best friend and girls too!" after all. The HB Shaphne actually worked quite nicely. Often together, but never really said anything about it, could have been married by the time of 13 Ghosts but no one really knows.

I think with Be Cool the writer wanted her to still be quirky and over the top, so that why she acted like that in the episode. To be honest, when they made Daphne pretend to be Shaggy girlfriend it was quite unexpected. With Daphne being crazy for Fred in most of the DVD movie since 2010 and with MI having both character in a relationship it was surprising. I guess now WBA are aware of both parings and what they decided to go with is yet to be seen. Personally the whole jealousy think between the characters has gotten so old. You would think the writer would be able to think of something else while still keeping the movies goofy after all this time. Also can't wait for that update!

Personally, I expected the Shaggy/Daphne relationship as JCB (the head writer) mentioned that the episode was a "tribute to the Shaphne fans" before it aired. Didn't mind Daphne's quirkiness, though to be fair I have a pretty quirky personality myself lol. The jealousy has gotten very old. It feels like more of a crutch now than a joke, as it was originally intended. Agreed that the writers need to move on and think up some other jokes quickly, as this one wore out its welcome long ago.

What would you like them to do instead of doing the same old jealousy trick?

I don't like the Daphne of Be Cool, they went far too much with her. I am not against an excentric Daphne, (she was more or less in What's new Scooby-Doo) but it was too much, she look almost insane and she is not Daphne for me. I am not a fan of Velma neither, i even prefer the Velma of Mystery incorporated (at least she maturel a lot in season 2). I have the feeling they tried to change the dynamic between the characters, but something is wrong. I always loved the Daphne/Shaggy/Scooby trio but honestly, when the whole gang is together, she is closer to Fred and Velma than them and it's a very natural thing for me, since it's was always the case except for the series Fred and Velma were absent. Suddenly place Daphne almost always at the back seat with them without any reason felt a bit strange and injustified.
There is so many ways to make their relationship interresting that they should know better than us. Make them close to each other by sit together or to separate together like they more or less always did (though i would like to see a serie with all of them mix for the clues, Fred/Daphne or Fred/Daphne/Velma and Shaggy/Scooby or Shaggy/Scooby/Velma in some épisodes, and others with Daphne/Shaggy/Scooby, or Fred/Scooby and Shaggy/Daphne/Velma, for exemple. If they ever make a serie where Scrappy come back, it would add possibilities), confess things to each other, confort each other…Not neccessarly a much stronger relationship or put in the light than others relationship they may have with the rest of the gang, just slightly more tender and potentially romantic.
Honestly would love to see a serie where Fred and Daphne are close or even a couple but where she is also to Shaggy and Scooby (after all, they were only together in several series and were very close). It does not seem possible for the authors to conciliate the two.

Hmm, I quite liked the Apeman as it was a cool nod to "Never Ape an Ape Man" from the original Where Are You series. I agree about Daphne, I think she was perfect like that in that particular series, but I'm not sure it would fit with any other series. Yes, you totally get me then lol! I think the world would be a better place if more people realized that! Literally anything else lol. In seriousness though, I would like to see the characters be more three dimensional and focus on developing their characters. There is more to Daphne's personality than being jealous of Fred. Additionally, it would be nice to feel like we're going somewhere with Fred and Daphne's relationship. It feels like we're just spinning in circles, especially with Stage Fright. Daphne tells Fred she's in love with him, then it goes back to the same jealousy cycle in the next film and no one talks about their supposed new relationship.

What would you like them to do instead of doing the same old jealousy trick? While we're on the subject on BCSD Daphne, there's something I realized. Grey Griffin is a comedienne IRL, and this is really the first Scooby media where she brought her stand-up skills front and center! So while I lean towards the side that likes BCSD Daphne but agree with a couple points from the side that dislikes her - such as her humor being a bit overdone at some times - the truth is that comedic side of her shouldn't completely vanish. Instead, Daphne should be portrayed in future Scooby media like how Space Jam (and, to an extent, The Looney Tunes Show) handled Daffy Duck. I saw somewhere online where an animation fan or film critic praised that film for its seamless blending of wild/zany/looney Daffy and wisecracking/angry/jealous Daffy. In no way am I suggesting or further condoning jealous Daphne; I'm just saying that a good, properly written mixture of 80's Daphne (serious/strong) and BCSD Daphne (comedic but not overdone, and hasn't it already been established that she lowkey rivals Shaggy/Scooby when it comes to eating?) is needed.

I really like your approach with the character interaction and I think this would fit perfectly with the more goofy tone the recent series and movies have taken. It would help develop the character and would help develop any relationship without it being such a huge part of the plot, just make it subtle. Doing this would not take away from the goofy tone of the movie or series. Hopefully some WBA writer can see this and can hopefully try this approach.
Also about Daphne from Be Cool, I really liked that she was eccentric and I think it work quite well with this series, though I wouldn't want that to be her personality for every series. I will admit, even though I enjoyed this version of Daphne, that sometimes she was way over the top even for my liking. Some episodes her quirkiness was a little too much. I found the episodes where she had a beard to be a little weird.
