But overall, I was actually pretty happy with this film on sale. It's basically the current version/style of the gang re-exploring everything they thought they knew about Zombie Island. It also familiarizes a younger target audience with the Mook franchise in a very bright, lighthearted, and non-violent way. The DVD also includes one of my favorite TNSDMysteries episodes which I didn't have a hard-copy of yet. My recommendation is to pass on this until you can get it on sale, but it is worth watching eventually.

I feel like the film would have been better if it wasn't marketed as a sequel to Zombie Island, personally. It worked on its own, but the tone was completely inconsistent with, and also contradictory to, the original film.

Yes. Unfortunately, in their attempt to keep things lighthearted and simple, it takes away a lot from the original if you were to consider it canon. I think they were trying to make everything fit together, sort of a full-circle from Mook-era to current Scooby, but it didn't really work as intended. The biggest problem being that Zombie Island *was* a very different tone with character death and real monsters. The voices actually bothered me too, since the original had a lot of unique voices I got used to as well. This film is a good reminder that the original Zombie Island was a very unique film which holds up very well by today's standards still.
