Oh.. I wonder what that will mean for Scooby-Doo content I can't imagine it'll impact Scooby Doo and the Gang all that much - they already get 3 DTV movies a year and aren't long between series. Not too much more you can add to that I think. But with another HB studio maybe we'll see some of the other characters come back. Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Johnny Quest (my mom would love this one, she was a huge fan), Space Ghost, Birdman, and Blue Falcon would be big with the superhero craze going now, the Pirates of Dark Water, SWAT Kats...there's a lot of great HB stuff just glancing at the wiki page.

Interesting! I think this is the first time Hanna-Barbera Studios has officially been active since its demise in 2001, right?

They must be planning some HB revivals, otherwise why? Rebranding when you only have one noteworthy project (The Amazing Gumball movie) in the pipeline makes no sense.

This is interesting, but could be really exciting. They have a lot of beloved material at their hands beyond Scooby and the Flintstones here (Yogi, Huck, Quick Draw, Top Cat, Jetsons, Jonny Quest, Wacky Races, Magilla, etc.). Or maybe it’s just being able to market their current material as Hanna Barbera idk

Indeed, that’s what I was thinking. Pretty sure this was all planned since the idea of the Hanna Barbera multiverse and they convinced Cartoon Network Europe to be on board and now they’re gonna produce HB content locally

And the surprises keep on coming. Going to be interesting to see which properties this studio chooses to go with.
But let's all take one giant breath before we laugh. After all the years those of us who are Hanna Barbera fans had to be considered irrelevant by Cartoon Network fans, this is really great to see Warner Bros just declare the Hanna Barbera name to be more relevant than the Cartoon Network name for the Europe studio.
It of course may make sense to use the Europe studio to do more work that the main studio can't fit in the pipeline. In the past CN's Europe base wasn't exactly the most respected if Gumball didn't turn into one of the Network's go-to shows a lot of people probably won't even know they had a Europe studio.

Another thought that just hit me in the head, I hadn't considered before. While most everybody is under the assumption that AT&T's end goal is probably to merge Warner Bros Animation and CN Studios into one another. The fact Sam Register is in charge of both and now the Europe studio underscores that as WBA's head was in charge of both WBA and HB in 96 where CN Studios was just an imprint inside HB.
What if the end goal here actually is to replace CN Studios with a Hanna Barbera imprint? Making it less a case of two individual studios but one studio with two functions. One carrying the WB name, the other carrying the HB name. The idea they didn't close CN Europe but renamed it Hanna Barbera Europe might suggest this possibility as an alternative.

Since starting this thread, I've spoken to a former colleague that now works for Cartoon Network. They wanted to step away from the CN branding because not all the projects they work on are for Cartoon Network. The new branding allows more flexibility on the content they create and where it may end up, including competitors in some markets.
I've asked if they're involved in Velma for HBO Max, and I should hopefully get an answer tomorrow. The dream project is still Season 3 of Mystery Incorporated.

I'm reluctant to put too much expectancy on employees because the brutal truth is that while the top execs no doubt know exactly what they want to do, there's no guarantee the lower execs and the rank and file (animators, writers, etc) have actually been told the entirety of the plans. And I know if it was possibly my job, my position or my check that could be affected by such changes I might not want to get drawn up in too much rumor and gossip. I'd be surprised at this point if anyone working there hasn't at least heard the rumors though.
Moving away from the Cartoon Network branding is a predictable outcome given it's clearly no longer a high priority, look how long it took them to even buy back the Cartoon Network Shop domain. This kind of has some old feelings of Hanna Barbera Australia/Southern Star which gives the Europe Studio more room to spread it's wings in it's home land and probably kick some back to the US brand and HBO Max.
Regardless though whichever case it turns out to be, the lines we currently know at WB Animation and CN Studios probably aren't marked on the books as "keep it the same".

I'm the director of two marketing agencies and the UK rights holder for Playmates Toys. My former colleagues are literally the people that decided the name of the new company.

NOt saying that all of what DC did was the best thing since sliced bread but it was better than letting it sit of the shelf and collect dust which was what WB seemed to be happy to let it do. A Scooby Apocalypse movie or mini-series anyone?
