I'm cautiously optimistic. An adult-oriented Scooby has the potential to be very funny and clever, or disastrous, and there's no in-between. I really admire Mindy Kaling, so that's already a good sign, but I'm not forming any expectations. I'm just gonna go in and see what happens with it.
I can't deny that I'd be a little disappointed if they didn't explore Gay Velma in this show, though, in light of recent events. It's probably not gonna happen, but it's one of the only places I could see it actually happening, so... fingers crossed for me IG

There's always bland "Meh, it's alright" as an option, no matter what.

Have to say I'm really excited for this! I love Velma and am excited to see where this goes. Since there's a murder mystery plot, I would love to see a horror-comedy type thing here, as I think it would be a lot of fun for a Scooby show to explore that. And I do hope they explore her sexuality, and Mindy seemed to imply they would in her post. Fingers crossed for bi or gay Velma ALSO hoping this fixes Velma's characterization issues in the recent movies.

I've spoken to one of the franchise regular faces about the show. Whilst HBO Max ordered the series, it may end up shared or exclusively on The CW.

The development process at HBO Max is far slower than the speed WB Animation produces Scooby-Doo, so The CW will likely be the home to at least one Scooby-Doo formerly-DTV project a year going forward, with the other being a HBO Max release.

This is just, more and more, sounding like the classic "we're out of ideas, so while doing something original, let's just piggy back off of a franchise because we fear the untested."
Why is this a Velma series?

Thank you so much. This is great. You forgot to mention that Fred, Daphne and Shaggy will be in it, apparently according to this guy. That makes me really happy. I’m really excited how the relationships between the gang evolve and really can’t wait to see their new looks. Also Im so happy they are reimagining Velma being of East Asian descent, since we already had Hayley Kiyoko playing her, so this makes so much sense, although it’s definitely gonna be a new Asian version of her. Also, really don’t get the criticism, without reimagining and stripping down a franchise of its elements and reassembling them into new concepts, a franchise is 100% short-lived. Let’s not forget many shows didn’t have Daphne, Velma, Fred, many included supernatural elements, many were the typical 7minutes tom and jerry chase type of format, but that’s the whole point. I imagined how criticised those concepts would have been nowadays with forums and social media, but they happen and people get to love them or hate them. But please just wait until it airs. I get hyped hearing about news of any single Scooby property because I love to imagine how they will make it new, fresh and still bringing me the characters I love, in different versions of them, and sometimes I too get disappointed, but at least I watch them first. Anyways.. Im stoked to watch this and I imagine this make it even clearer that Velma it’s gonna be the official new Scooby series since almost the whole gang is in it

Oooo interesting! I wonder if this will be a case of trhem introducing Scooby later in the show, giving him another new origin for how he meets the gang, and they just said "won't appear at all" to mean like, in the first season or something.

That's an interesting theory! I'm hoenstly not even clear if they're planning for more than one season at this point. I've seen some articles just say "10 episode series" but I'm not sure if that means they're only planning for the series to be 10 episodes no matter what, or if they're just planning for one season right now with the possibility of more (I assume the latter, but idk).

“Series” is sometimes used interchangeably with “season” internationally.

Oh interesting. Wouldn't be surprised if they had planned on it being a 10 episode mini-series, and then will wait to see how popular it is and decide if they want to renew it for more seasons, or if they're just using series and season interchangably like dizagaox said. I do wonder if they're planning on another standard Scooby series for after Guess Who is over as well.

Tony Cervone mentioned that SCOOB! spinoff is in the process of being pitched, so maybe that will be the next TV series? Idk, it could be a movie too.
