Overall neutral, normally I avoid him like the plague but he can be deployed well. His run in Scooby Apocalypse is my favourite.

The problem was never Scrappy but the huge downgrade in writing that took place during the 80s

I don't like Scrappy Doo but without him the series may have died in the 80s. As a result: He's tolerable.
I don't seek out the episodes which only feature Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy because it not the dynamic I enjoy. If Scrappy is in an episode along with the rest of the gang; I'm not going to turn it off.

I'm a big Scrappy fan. I think he's the least annoying (and my favorite) of Scooby's relatives. (IF anybody deserves the fan-hatred, it's Scooby-Dumb imho) Lennie Weinrib's voice was a little annoying, but Don Messick played him perfectly. Scrappy was the only one who could 'see behind the curtain' as it were, and knew the monsters were nothing but guys in disguises. In some episodes & films, when he was finally "let at 'em" he actually beat the bad guys up!
I honestly think he's so derided because his most popular season was 13 Ghosts - you know, the first time the monsters were actually real!? His "let me at 'em" schtick got really old and annoying, because NOW he really was a clueless, cocky little pup - which is a bit annoying. Pre (and post) 13 Ghosts Scrappy I think is great, however. I'd love to see him return, and NOT in a mocking cameo like in M:I. An actual full-fledged return. With the rest of the gang in tow to boot. I think that'd be great to see. Although, with his reputation, I have my doubts that'll ever happen.

But it's fine-sometimes people forget that there's more then that Scrappy to love. Since it is becoming slowly clear that the writers really DON'T seem to be allowed to use Scrappy for some reason, the cameo from Mystery Inc. seems less mocking and more wistful and bittersweet- like "this is the best we can do" Daphne's sadness when Fred stops her from speaking of Scrappy is resonant. But nice comment! :D

I voted neutral. I really like the season 1 episodes but he is very annoying in that series. I feel that he gets toned down in the next series especially with Don Messick taking over as the voice, unfortunately the shorts of the next series aren't good in my opinion period. Once it gets to the New Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo Show and especially the New Scooby Doo Mysteries that is where he is at his peak in the series. The shows were pretty good and he really wasn't very annoying. It's been a while since I've watched 13 Ghosts so I won't comment on that one. I also appreciate Scrappy in the movies, especially Boo Brothers. The biggest problem though is that he essentially replaced the rest of the gang and that makes him unacceptable to most and while I can watch and enjoy episodes he is in, most episodes simply can't compare to ones with the entire gang for me, and most of the exceptions have other members of the gang in it (Shiver and Shake that Demon's a Snake, Nutcracker Scoob, etc.)

I'm more neutral as well. The character himself isn't bad, I think it's just how some of the shorts weren't written very well (IMO) that makes a lot of people dislike him. I love him in the three 1980s films though!

Taking on the role of Scrappy for the roleplay, I've found that it's really fun to write for his character. He can get obnoxious at times, but he's always up to something. And you know he has a good heart, even when he splats the wrong guy or springs the trap on the wrong guy. Last night, I actually sat down and started typing up, "Scrappy Trap: A Roleplaying Game". I have no idea if and when I'll get the in-game mechanics working, but it was a lot of fun picturing Scrappy and his gang (Duke+Annie) as the main protagonists in a fight against demons. I'll post updates once there's something ready to share and maybe even playtest.

After the original and The Scooby-Doo Show, Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo was perhaps my first Scooby show I ever watched, so yes, Scrappy has a spot in my heart. Yes he was overeager but kid me enjoyed seeing a character actually try to fight the monster RIGHT NOW instead of wasting time running away, lol. But yeah, even I can admit he can be a bit overbearing at his goofiest and even when used well he tends to steal the spotlight from the more important characters.

I like him! He's a cute little guy. I wish they'd bring him back without making fun of him.

I love Scrappy. He sucked during the vignette years, he was rough during the first season with the entire Gang, but by the time Daphne came back all the way through to Reluctant Werewolf, Scrappy was very cool and had quite a bit of potential. And it's a shame that Cartoon Network started blacklisting him from all Scooby media, followed by James Gunn's character assassination of him in the first live-action movie (canon or not, it tarnished Scrappy in the eyes of many), and now WB has even forced writers to exclude him. Imagine writing a movie that wraps up the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, and being told you can't use Flim-Flam or Scrappy-Doo. Thank God we still got Flim.
I think if they reintroduced them nowadays, he'd have to be a foil for one of the V-F-D trio. The 80's and Scooby Apocalypse teamed him up with Daphne, and I think that dynamic would still work. But since The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries started pushing him towards the child genius trope, I think he'd be an excellent companion for Velma. Scooby and Shaggy bring the comedic relief, Fred and Daphne do the legwork (and bring the romantic drama depending on the storyline), and then Scrappy and Velma are the ones who actually solve the mystery. Hell, Scrappy and Velma could bounce theories and ideas off of each other, giving us more insight into their thought processes.
