Hello! I noticed the thread about one of the fans complaining how dead it’s been in the fandom. And while I do understand some of the points made I feel there is a certain misconception. For example, Scooby has never been wildly successful. Even the beloved Mystery Incorporated TANKED in ratings when it was released, which lead to its botched release schedule. The reality is besides SDWAY every other Scooby series has just done okay. Scooby never had a series besides SDWAY that was a smash hit. I even read an article explaining that the reason Scooby has so many series is because the shows were underperforming ratings wise and they were trying to find something that stuck.
As much as I love WNSD again it only did okay ratings wise along with SDMI, BC, and other series. The reality is Scooby NEVER had a strong fan base. Even during the SDMI era this forum was pretty dead compared to other cartoon series. The thing is that Scooby-Doo caters to children, and that’s were the money is for WB because kids buy toys. The adults that love Scooby-Doo are a rarity and most adults outgrow Scooby and move on to other things, were as kids are the main audience. And kids aren’t gonna be on forums.
Also I’ve said it before but I truly dislike, I’ll be honest downright HATE real monsters in Scooby-Doo. It kinda grinds my gears that people think that’s the ONLY way to make the franchise different and darker. There’s so much uncovered territory that Scooby hasn’t explored like solving actual mysteries with actual criminals, returning Scooby-Dum, having a series focused on the gangs friendship, having the gang work for the government, having a CSI styled Scooby series while still having fake monsters, I could go on.
Scooby was originally about disproving the supernatural, and I feel that Zombie island should’ve been the only exception and they should’ve just moved on and not repeated that. But again just my opinion.
I don’t really think anything killed the fandom, it just was never strong to being with. Guess Who while flawed is a successful series and the general public is praising it. Just look at the reviews on IMBD and Twitter. We a small fandom make up a very small chunk of Scooby’s audience and just because the 10 people who frequent this forum don’t like something doesn’t mean the GP doesn’t.
Just my two cents. Sorry for the long response. What are everyone’s thoughts?
