Veteran actor, Orson bean, who perhaps is most famous for plsying Bilbo in the 1977 Rankin bass version of the Hobbit, has died at 91 as the result of a car accident. His television career spanned nearly 70 years, and he most recently was in Desperate Housewives in a recurring role. RIP.

Tragic way to go. Admittedly he was before my time, but I have seen him in guest spots on sitcoms and he was a great actor. He seemed to have been in good health for his age as he guested on Grace and Frankie this year. I am sorry to hear of his passing and I send my condolences to his wife and family members. What a legendary career and legacy he has left behind.

Mr. Bean (the actor, not the character played by Rowan Atkinson) also appeared as a game show panelist during the 1970s and 1980s. He made some appearances on "Match Game" during the 1970s. He was considered for hosting the "Concentration" revival (and even hosted a 1985 pilot), but lost to Alex Trebek and the revival was titled "Classic Concentration".
Was Orson involved in any Scooby-Doo episodes, and if so, in what episode(s) did he appear?
I wonder if Mr. Bean (the actor, not the British character) was developing Alzheimer's disease, and he was struck by a car because his memory was pretty weak and wasn't aware of his surroundings?
Still, sad loss in the world of entertainment.

I searched this up and couldn't find any Scooby production that he was involved in, but it wouldn't surprise me if material similar to his was used in some. He rarely did voice work, but he was Bilbo Baggins in a 1970s animated version of The Hobbit, and was in a Garfield special plus Tiny Toon Adventures.
