One of my favorite things about the classic Scooby-Doo cartoons prior to the 1990s was the use of Hanna-Barbera's distinctive sound effects library. H-B built up such a great and funny sound effect library in their five decades of existence, and they often helped make the show funny and cartoony. This is one thing that's usually missing from the Scooby-Doo stuff made since Warner Bros. Animation took over in 1998, usually only sparingly using them in exaggerated comedic bits with Scooby and Shaggy and going for more realistic, modern and down-to-earth sound effects. (Ironically, Warner Bros. Animation used some of H-B's sound effects in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts of the late 1960s, when they were known as Warner Bros.- Seven Arts and doing those cartoons with Cool Cat and Merlin the Magic Mouse.) There are some exceptions though, such as "Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?" and at least three direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movies ("Legend of the Vampire," "Monster of Mexico" and "Mask of the Blue Falcon") that make fairly heavy and frequent use of the H-B sound effects library, usually for a retro feel.
If you want to hear many of these individual sound effects, you can find them here...

You may want to search using certain keywords to find the certain sound you want, as long as you select "Hanna Barbera" for the library.
Or alternatively, you can look on the Soundeffects Wiki (CAUTION: Quite a bit of drama here, and it seems quite a few users really dislike H-B's sound effects...)

I guess my favorite classic Scooby-Doo/H-B sound effects would have to include the classic "bat chirps," the "big chomp," "boink and wiggle," the "auto approach, skid and crash" (which is also used for the Cliffhangers game on "The Price is Right"), "Ken's bass drum and cymbal crash," the "large wood crunch" (which actually originated from Disney!), some of H-B's classic explosions, the "flbonk," the metallic "big head bonk" (also originated from Disney), the "big smash against wall," the "kazoo fade in and fade out", the "cork squeak and pop," the "temple block riot" (one of THE signature H-B sound effects), the "temple block run up," the "fast run," the "auto pull up and skid to stop," "broken skid," "bork pie hit," the "paint fight glops," "rubber stretching," "swoosh long air by," "funny run up take," "take whistle," "Scooby's teeth chatter," the "big splash," the classic "wolf/coyote howl", the "weird ship pulse" (the Space Kook's spaceship!), "rocky avalanche with big impact," those different "Castle Thunder" variations, the "Siberian wind," the "jet fast pass by," the classic Mystery Machine sounds, the old "diesel train pass by with horn" (like the Midnight Express in "Decoy for a Dognapper"), the "generator start up," the "big gulp" and "short crazy laugh," those big metal creaking sounds, the "harp and celesta," that distinct cloth rustle, a mechanical-sounding winch pulley, that "squeaky wheel" they used a lot, and a wacky spinning sound that also originated from Disney.
Phew! Long list, but listen, these sound effects are so much fun to listen to, and also a lot of fun to work with! I have the professional H-B sound effects library from Sound Ideas, and while it's pricey (because it's a royalty-free collection), it's worth every penny. I also have an older two-CD collection from the 80s called "The Hanna-Barbera Library of Sounds," and while it really pales in comparison to the Sound Ideas set, it does have some neat sounds not on the Sound Ideas set. I made really good use of these libraries in my YouTube Poop of Disney's "Robin Hood," where I made it sound like a 1970s Hanna-Barbera cartoon (due to the animation cutbacks Disney was using by that time)...
(NSFW, but see if you can recognize the sound effects I used here!)
In fact, the H-B sound effects REALLY come in handy when I do anything relating to Scooby-Doo...
Yep, with my extensive knowledge in cartoon sound effects, it was only a matter of time before I started a thread about them here!
So what are YOUR favorite classic Hanna-Barbera/Scooby-Doo sound effects?
