Hmmmmm so on the basis of this it'll be 60% 'Shaggy and Scooby running about being scared' 30% 'Shaggy and Scooby eating' with everything else being shoved in the gaps. On the plus side it doesn't look as childish as the cover art but the trailer really doesn't grab me for the above reason.

Following up on just having watched that trailer, I am still confused about what the plot is going to be here. The trailer clenches for me that this is the same island (as my google adventure of learning Louisiana is considered sub-tropic ended that inquest for me)
But given the whole thing from the Sheridan interview and not knowing when they were written, i'm curious if our opening to this movie is someone having bought Moonscar Island and turned it into a resort with a Scooby Doo hoax as a part of its gimmick. But then will the Scooby gang's return cause a return of the original antagonists? The one guy is wearing a cat god medallion and then we see what could be cat creatures chasing the van. Revenge of the cat god might still be a plausible plot line but I won't be surprised if even after a supernatural plotline Velma will deny it was real at the end as per her current character trend.
Velma's line about this being "one of the unsolved capers" baffles me without it's proper context. I know Velma made little sense at times in Curse of the 13th ghosts but i'll excuse them there due to them doubling a meta jokes. Here i'm rather curious how that is going to be handled.

I'm confused as well, to be honest. They seem to be saying it's the same island, but the island definitely didn't have a resort or hotels in the original movie. Velma also called it "Zombie Island," which seemed odd to me as they never called it Zombie Island in the original film. It was always just called Moonscar Island.
The zombies still look kiddy to me, but the one at 0:59 in the trailer is the same design as one of the zombies from the original film, which I thought was a cool reference.

At some point, someone else will be dressed as Fred because there are shot with two Freds and one of them looks older with a wig

I think Velma's line about the zombie island being an unsolved caper might be about the actual zombies themselves, since there was never an explanation of the zombies in the original movie (the gang speculated that they were trying to avenge their own deaths by stopping Simone and Lena, but that's not confirmed and there was no reason given as to how they were able to come back). And as for calling it "Zombie Island" instead of "Moonscar Island", the KISS movie established that the gang has names for all of their cases, and they're coincidentally the same names as their corresponding episodes/movies (Foul Play in Funland, Roller Ghoster Ride and now Zombie Island).
And yes, I noticed the two Freds as well, could it be possible that they're doing a movie based on Mystery Inc. and that's why the real ones are invited to the island? For some reason, my initial reaction was "Is that Bo Neville?"
As for the zombies, they look way too cartoony and dumb, aside from that brief scene where all of the original 90's designs are shown emerging from the ground. And yes, there is definitely a zombie wearing a green jacket that is meant to be an homage to the Which Witch is Which case.

Are the Cat People chasing the Mystery Machine dressed like the originals? One looked like it was wearing a yellow dress One female has long wavy brown hair, which can't be Simone (short, wavy blonde), Lena (long, bushy black) or Jacques (short, straight white/no hair in cat form). The other is a slender male, which is definitely not Jacques.

Hmmm seems like a toss up. I think I will wait for the reviews to come in before I commit. I don't want to ruin a classic lol and I just can't get over how Louisiana is depicted in movies, it's always so far off base, I wish people would actually visit before they use it...

Blame our schools, our education concerning the outside world is atrocious. It's actually funny you say this, I'm writing about Washington Irving right now, who was sending The Sketchbook over from England and most of it contained essays on British culture. That would be our last authentic account until James Bond 😝

Me and my partner did a reaction to the trailer after we made some predictions based off the synopsis and box art released beforehand. After seeing the trailer now I am definitely more hopeful then I was before but skeptical as the trailer feels like it may lean into the indecisive writing of Curse of the 13 Ghosts where it'll try and brush the real and fake monsters together and give a blanket explanation for everything.

...I wish people would actually visit before they use it... Welcome to how the rest of the world feels when depicted in US shows. Hell, Puerto Rico is PART of the US (or at least we're owned by it), and I don't ever recognize it in most US-based shows. The Flying Nun (filmed in California of all places) is the most egregious case of this, it makes San Juan, our super modern and super gorgeous capital, look like the rural neighborhoods peppering every South American-set soap opera. The Puerto Rico shown in Scooby-Doo is a little more faithful, but still not even close, although that could be attributed to taking place 20 years before I was born, so maybe that's what it was like back then. Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is hands-down the best representation of Puerto Rico I've ever seen on TV. (It helps that they actually filmed on location in San Juan.)
