Some infos revealed during the Annecy Festival pannel yesterday - Again, it's said that the movie focuses on Shaggy and Scooby friendship, how they met.
- Tony said puppy Scooby is very cute.
- They first went into a realistic direction, but it didn't work. "Seeing these drawings you could perhaps guess that it is Scooby and Shaggy, but it is not automatic" Cervone explained.
- The gang's outfits have been updated, keeping the color scheme of each character. Fred's ascot is gone. They've had the help of a hollywood stylist to do this.
- Tony talked about Scooby's animation, which in some scenes, as usual, will be biped: "Depending on the scenes he will have real hands instead of the front legs, otherwise it was too complicated to animate it".
- A clip of Shaggy and Scooby being chased by Dastardly's Henchmen was shown.
- Quest Industries building can be seen in a test piece. However, Johnny Quest will not be present in the film, or at least not in this episode: "Maybe in the sequel", suggests Allison Abbate.

What? God, I hope that's just a confusing way of saying it'll be like this, where one toe becomes a thumb... and not THIS...

You know what, I'm bored with this, directly or indirectly so many other episodes and films have this as a running element that unless he can say something knew or bring a different angle then it'll be more of the same. If this is the main focus of the film then I'm going to give it a miss. Tony had his big opportunity to look at relationships in SD:MI and they were a dumpster fire. Are we going to have the same 'different but dysfunctional' relationships and characterisation of the gang that he gave us in SD:MI? But it can't be the main focus of the film as it's a 'shared universe' thing so the focus has to be there as that has to be built from the ground up as this is the move where this is established, but wait a moment the rest of the gang are there so is the focus on how they got together... So there is no main focus to this film? Will I be wrong on some or all of these points, probably, but I still have not heard anything that makes me excited about this project, even less that would prompt me to see it.

It's looking more and more like this one is going to turn out bad. Why they keep trying to change what has worked for 50 years is beyond me. Here we go again with the hating before seeing how it actually turns out. Ever heard of creative destruction? Companies that do not adapt to innovations become obsolete and go out of business, leaving the ground to new businesses. In this case it’s about cartoons. Changes are, not only necessary but vital if we want this to work at all.

Changes are, not only necessary but vital if we want this to work at all. And the counterpoint to that is if it isn't broken, don't fix it. I'm pending judgement on it, I just don't hold out a lot of hope based on the trend of WB's current output. The argument about innovation may apply to tangible entities but harder to use here as while the method of producing the show may have changed, the art/science of storytelling is pretty much nailed down by now. The concern is with the content, not how it is made.

It sounds like this movie and whatever future sequels it produces are going to be mostly their own little modern theatrical attempt at the characters, which would also explain why WBA prepared by having the tv productions going on in the more classic vein. So to each their own may either both or one keep going on.
Some of the things are going to be harder to accept, but I still think this stands a good chance of being enjoyable to me. Whether the rest of the world takes it the same way will be the big question they'll either succeed or fail at.

I really don't want them to change it much, I adore the origin of Scooby being Shaggy's dog since a pup : (
Though I love Shaggy and Scooby's friendship focused films.
