Hi guys I was wondering whether it was possible to add a feature that shows what folks are doing while online. For example it could show 'scoobnick" posting in Scooby role play,

This is a cool idea, but a few concerns with this: 1. Some people might not want others to know what they're doing. Not that anyone would be doing anything that they weren't supposed to, but I could see a scenario where someone used the feature to follow a person around in a creepy way to see everything they're doing. Plus some people just prefer the privacy to do what they want.
2. This might be a problem in terms of people feeling frustrated/jealousy if they see that someone is viewing their post/reply to them but not responding. I know sometimes I'll look at a post or reply to me that I want to respond to, but don't have the time immediately when I see it. Or I might want to wait to give a more detailed response. I just wouldn't want anyone to feel bad or jealous.
3. There might be an issue with personal messages too. I know people use personal messages in different ways, some people don't use it at all and others use it to have extensive conversations with members in private. I wouldn't want anyone to feel frustrated or jealous if they see someone's activity is regularly responding to a specific person (i.e. they might think "this person's activity says they're always talking to so and so via PM. Why don't they PM me as much as they do this other person?") I'm not really sure how other people use the PM function, but honestly there are a couple people on here who I'll talk to via PM a lot or write longer messages to,, just to chat about life and stuff. Point being I just wouldn't want anyone to feel jealous if someone's talking to another person privately a lot and they see it via this potential new feature.
I'm definitely not opposed to it, though those are my concerns at the moment. Do you have any thoughts on these? There is a feature, if you click on a specific board, it will show the members names that are also viewing the same board that you are at that time.

well on another board I frequent we have a feature like that.it shows what people have been looking at for the past 15 minutes or so. someone might be ' viewing their personal messages', or viewing a thread, or replying to a thread. my own personal experience is that it is nice to see where people are being active. It often spurs activity in those sections.
I've never had any instance there of people being jealous that someone is viewing their posts but not responding. Maybe someone is simply reading your reply to see what you wrote on, say Scooby Doo Where are you!. it happens. as far as privacy goes, You cant read what other people say in their pms. They are, after all, private. what you say to, for instance Scoobyaddicts, is between the two of you, and you two alone.

Well I guess I'm just used to having a setup like that in place. We've had it for years at other places that I frequent and I suppose that I have just gotten so used to it that I don't even think twice about it being there. But on second thought, you're right about wanting to keep your privacy . I'll drop the idea

Also, to clarify, what I'd meant is that someone might get jealous if they look at a person's activity, and see their activity says that they're PMing someone, say ScoobyAddict a lot. The person might think "I thought we were friends, but they never PM me and they're always PMing so and so!" I didn't literally mean that people would be able to read others' PMs. Thanks for the suggestion though!
