Really sad. For once we had something from this franchise that was thought of the box and the kid think tank (that isn't from a fanfic, of course). Seriously, DC/Warner is really messing everithing up this days.

Well I think it was clear from the current issue that they were heading for the end. They have a few issues to wrap everything up which is good rather than it just being abruptly cancelled like happens with some comics. As the article points out, emphasis mine.
Now while it is sad I do think it is probably for the best as some of the issues have been lacklustre, and some purely a succession of talking heads, the latter a common critique of the book. Whilst I hope this has demonstrated to the powers at be that there is an appetite for this kind of Scooby, there is no evidence of any kind of follow-on. We could always petition DC for more, or a follow-on grown-up Scooby Doo.

Sad that it's being cancelled. I really enjoyed this series and the fact that, like others have said, it gave us a look at what a more mature, grown-up version of Scooby-Doo would look like. I just have to say though, I love that the thread first announcing this series' release and the thread announcing its cancellation both have the exact same name. Different people started it so obviously a coincidence, but still amusing nonetheless. scoobyaddicts.proboards.com/thread/4063/apocalypse-cancelled

This is so cool! Didn’t even notice that when I made the thread!

I think DC put too much stock in people's willingness to buy prestige re-imaginings of boomer cartoon characters. It worked for Flintstones and Snagglepuss but then there was some odd decisions like Chaykin's Ruff & Reddy. Scooby Apocalypse was an outlier in that it didn't try to be deep or edgy, it just tried to tell its own story with unique interpretations of these characters. I didn't like the comic very much but it's sad to see DC's experimental HB line bite the dust like this. I'm sure they'll keep the kid-friendly comics though.

So we'll see WB sitting on their properties and doing diddly-squat with them like the have done in the past. For their faults at least DC tried to do something with these, reintroducing them to a new audience, taking them in new directions, showing what could be. But if WB is only interested in same-old, same-old then their franchises will just wither on the vine as the 'nostalgia window' moves on and leaves those properties behind.

I would argue that DC had a much better handle on what to do with those IPs than WB ever had. And their kids Scooby Doo comics are dire, they really are. Poor stories, cut and paste artwork. The only reason to get WAY is for the back-up stories which come from earlier runs and are better written with higher quality artwork.

Dude, Scooby-Doo Team Up is way more fun than Scooby Apocalypse ever was. It's a love letter to all things DC and Hanna-Barbera. I do agree though that that DC made the best they possibly could with most HB properties since a lot of them weren't that good to begin with.

Disagree. Stock art makes Team Up terrible.

Disagree. Stock art makes Team Up terrible. The stock art isn't any different from the recycled animation cells used on the original show. It's a shortcut but the writing is what matters.

Disagree. Stock art makes Team Up terrible. ...It's a shortcut but the writing is what matters. And that's another reason, the quality of the writing has gone down since the beginning. Interesting ideas, badly executed. It's almost like they have no budget. They have gone from being all ages to aimed purely at young children. If it's intentional it's fine, if its lack of budget that's bad Either way I dropped both Team Up and WAY from my pull list a few months ago.

Let's hope that something new and better will come up soon (especially for SD 50th birthday).

Scooby had been aimed solely at children up until maybe Pup. Just because something's simplistic doesn't mean it's bad. Team Up has the most faithful modern takes on classic HB characters and is a great way to introduce the DC canon to younger kids.
