It was quite cringy as I expected, bu despite the corny references to gender roles and technology it was kinda cute. I love me a bit of girl power and I'm sure the Tisdale sisters are all about that as well. Well, there were also some jokes that were actually pretty funny, especially towards the end. It was ok, nothing special, a typical pre-teen movie for kids

Wow I didn't even think it was out yet! How does it compare to Mystery Begins? It leaked a few weeks ago. Erm, Mystery Begins was way better. This one felt rushed and quite uneventful

Spoilers ahead!!! I thought this movie was amazing! The one complaint I had was that I would have liked to see Daphne and Velma becoming online friends, rather than it jumping straight to Daphne coming to Ridge Valley High School. It just felt a bit rushed and like they could have developed it more. Otherwise, there was some really fun humor in this one and the movie certainly accomplished what it set out to do.
There were so many good jokes in this one, though some of my favorites were when Daphne told Velma to "look over there" (meaning to the lunch cart), and instead Velma looked at the gym coach eating pizza out of the trash. It was even more amusing when Daphne corrected Velma on where to look, and her reply "Oh no, he's doing it AGAIN!" Not being a huge social media person, I found a lot of the social media jokes to be a bit cringy, but I did like the meme they made with Three-Mop Maggie, particularly the "Dat mop life" caption (I think that's what it said at least, it flashed by within a second and was backwards off of Daphne's phone). The principal dancing with her yogurt was...uh...interesting lol. The dumb jocks were quite funny, I particularly enjoyed the "Sometimes, I wish you were MY dad" and their realization at the end that the Bloom Bracket was a metaphor on technology's affect on our lives and changing your identity for peer pressure.
Sadly, the Shame Bots did not live up to their name and were kinda lame. The line about the female president was both intruging and confusing, as it would be very surprising if not having a female president was Daphne's deepest insecurity. Though then again, if Daphne's dad has sheltered her that much, maybe that is her deepest insecurity! I felt genuinely sad for Daphne, as it's crazy that her dad was that protective of her! A bit confused why Daphne's dad needed to play her dance playlist (surely with all that technology there would be the ability to play music on your phone), though nonetheless it was amusing watching him dance.
I liked that they worked the feminist stuff in without being too obtrusive for those who were worried about it. It was cool that they had Daphne's parents be an interracial couple, not that it's a big deal or anything, but cool that they are representing that more throughout films and TV.
The movie's message was terrific and everything they touched on is so important, for kids or for anyone really. It's incredibly important to just be your unique self, and not give into peer or societal pressure to conform to be a person you're not. The message about optimism is great as well and is incredibly important in such a dark, insecure world. I found myself relating a lot with Daphne's character, as I'm a very optimistic person and just try to be myself regardless of what anyone else thinks or says.
The mystery itself was very interesting, though not super complex. I wouldn't have suspected Carol, but I could tell almost from the beginning that Tobias Bloom was behind it. Interesting that they didn't really have any ghosts/monsters in here, though it was still a fun, silly little movie. Definitely as good as Mystery Begins IMO. Oh and the stuff with Daphne and Velma being shocked that Carol was 26 was hilarious. "You look so young for 26!" haha.

Were Shaggy and Fred even hinted at, maybe to set this up for a sequel?

Were Shaggy and Fred even hinted at, maybe to set this up for a sequel? They were not. Its like if you gave someone who had never even heard of Scooby Doo a couple paragraph run-down of what Scooby is about and said "Now, write a story focused on Velma and Daphne. What did I like? The messages about the dangers of AI and over-reliance on technology. What did I hate? How corny it was, how far removed from the characters they were, the changing of the entire universe, the terrible casting (the principal looked like a female Adam Scott, Carol should have been who played Daphne). This one almost slipped under the radar, now I wished the radar hadn't picked it up at all. As much as there has been a call from the fan base to have some side stories, to break up the gang, you would think they would have taken a chance here to capitalize, but they came up short. An awesome idea poorly executed.

Also Daphne being a daughter of an interracial couple was probably my favorite thing. Vanessa Marano was better as a villain

This movie is obviously aimed at kids but it actually isn't half bad. Not as good as Mystery Begins but it's a fun and cute take on the franchise. It's worth a $2 redbox rental if you're a Scooby fan. My favorite part is when the coach sneaks food out of the garbage can ahaha.

I noticed two inside jokes. The blue ribbon is obviously referencing the film's production company of the same name. Also, when a certain female character discloses her age (avoiding spoilers here) according to IMDb she really is that age!

I thought the casting was terrific and also loved the silliness of it, even if it was slightly kiddy (especially with some of the lame technology jokes). My favorite part is also the coach sneaking food out of the trash lol.

Carol should have been who played Daphne Hmm, Carol actually seemed a lot more like Linda Cardellini's Velma to me, especially in the end scene.

Were Shaggy and Fred even hinted at, maybe to set this up for a sequel? An awesome idea poorly executed. That pretty much sums up this movie for me. An awesome idea, poorly executed. On one hand, you have Velma, who has been established to be a NASA research assistant, is a certifiable genius, and has been known to turn heads. On the other hand, you have Daphne, an expert martial artist, an accomplished driver, pilot and reporter, who also just happens to be beautiful and come from money. There were so many stories that could've been told with these two, and out of all the possibilities, having them be high school students who stop a body snatching plot was not on my list. (Personally, I would've liked something more like The Mummy meets The Bodyguard, where Velma has made an amazing scientific discovery, and the only one who can protect her is Daphne, and they have to solve the mystery of who's trying to keep Velma's discovery buried before they get buried with it!)
