Does anyone know when the city name "Coolsville" was first used?
I'm guessing in "A Pup Called Scooby-Doo", but I wasn't sure. I know they also used it in last year's "The Mystery Begins".
But was it ever used in any other Scooby series/show? I can't recall ever hearing it in any of the earlier 70's - 80's shows.
Thanks!
Mark

No, unless it was in The Scrappy and Scooby and Yabba Doo Show. They did use it in the first two live action movies also.

I believe it was Pup, but I'm not 100% positive about that.

I think it was in pup too. I use Coolsvil as my town name on Animal Crossing. I couldn't spell it right because it wouldn't let me use that many characters.

It seems in the new series, it's called Crystal Cove instead of Coolsville.

Wasn't Crystal Cove used somewhere else before? It seemed very familiar. The big sign and everything.

That was kind of interesting; actually the name of the town and surrounding area kind of reminded me a lot of the old soap opera Dark Shadows. I think the town in that show was Collinsport or something like that.

It was Collinsport. I'm a big Dark Shadows fan. Actually I always thought that setting was similar to the where they might all live in "SD, WAY?" With all the sea and pirate oriented stories. Same sort of spooky atmosphere. I didn't think about it as much last night but you're right.

Mark Thanks; when I first read about the show it reminded me a lot of Dark Shadows because that show eventually became a lot like what Scooby has always been, plus the setting of this show reminded me a lot of that show because on Dark Shadows all the supernatural happenings were going on in one place, much like this series. Plus, Collinsport was in Maine IIRC correctly and it never was mentioned where Coolsville was, although everybody especially online always said it was in Ohio, which would make sense considering some of the original series episodes(amusement parks, sea monsters and all that).

Ohio? Huh, never heard that one. Then I'm guessing they assume all those sea & pirate stories happened along the Great Lakes?
Personally I always thought they might be somewhere in New England. A long line of spooky & supernatural history there already, plus the sea with little rocky islands. Old farms and all that.
I'm curious, what's been the general logic behind Ohio?

Mark Basically the whole Coolsville in Ohio thing is from a lot of the fan's persepective; actually there's a few fan sites including John Likeglass's(BTW his stories are excellent and I think the writers may have taken some of his suggestions to heart) that state the gang is from Ohio.

Hmm. I may have to visit that site. Ohio is landlocked and their portion of Lake Erie coastline doesn't look much like the imagery in WAY? Especially the islands they're always crashing into.
I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

Saw this quote on the Wikipedia page for Curse of the Lake Monster. Thought it was interesting.
"A map at the beginning, depicting the gang driving to the country club, puts Coolsville south of the city of Medina in Northeast Ohio, around where the villages of Seville and Creston are in real life. The same map would put the country club at Headlands Beach State Park, around the village of Fairport Harbor. Mountains like those seen in the background of several scenes, of course, exist nowhere in Ohio"

Coolsville was first used in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, but was also used in What's New SD and SD 2 Monsters Unleashed. Cystal Cove was first used in Scooby-Doo in SDMI. It was never revealed what state Coolsville was in. I believe "Coolsville, U.S.A." was the only thing said in A Pup Named SD. I think the whole Ohio thing might have came from a town called Coolville in Ohio.
