Oh my lord it's finally here! It's great to see Scooby to go in a different direction that isn't just present day with made up monsters and occasionally real ones. This is hard core stuff and I love seeing such a huge change! The book blends the character's personalities from nearly every incarnation there is, unfortunately that includes the live action movies and M.I.. Characters: *Scooby-Scoob was great but that might because he had little to do so they couldn't mess him up. I think Scooby's cuteness really requires motion but they did a great job of making him as cute as the medium allows. *Shaggy-I loved Shaggy for the most part. There was two things I didn't like about him:Calling people hot to their face! I mean really? How rude can you get? I really hope this doesn't mean they'll develop relationships as an A plot. (Though being completely honest I did smile a little bit when Daphne offered an autograph) I loved the idea of him being a dog trainer and defending Scooby. The addition of the pizza was a lovely touch. I still think Shaggy's eyes are to dark for his blonde locks, I think green or blue would've really popped out with his shirt too. His design has grown on me, but I don't like earrings or tattoos in real life so one can only change their opinion so much. *Daphne-A Zombie Island version of Daphne is okay, but when they said they were using the characters' original personalities I expected to be shown them, not a DTV's version. She did seem to have a role reversal with Fred, her being the smart one and him being slightly dim witted. I'm still disappointed she's not wearing a dress, I'd totally wear one in an apocalypse besides she's on tv she has to look good! I do find it weird when Daphne's eyes aren't pastel blue as she was the only one in the original to have an eye colour shown. (Fred's were revealed to be blue in the New Scooby Doo Movies, the colour of Glen Cambell's to be exact) *Fred-Well he doesn't look attractive for being labeled as "the hunky one". Fred didn't really have much to do besides be ditzy. Surly he should've been in awe with Velma if they were using the original gang. *Velma-She was okay, I can easily imagine this would be the route the original would take in an apocalypse. My biggest complaint is she's kind of passive. She isn't that small compared to the cover. Plot: There's not a whole lot to discuss here as its only the origin, but they definitely have sown the seeds for something spectacular. I have to say I laughed out loud when Fred punched Velma in the face. I'd rate it 7/10, can't wait to hear what you guys think!

Loved Scooby Apocalypse #1. I only didn't like Daphne punching Fred but other than that..Perfect!
The Mole People stuff cracked me up so hard. Reminded me of the Fred in A Pup Named Scooby Doo.
Interested to know more back story on Daphne. She's seems more hardened then other incarnations... But for Fred to be crushing on her my guess is there's more to the story of why that's the case.
All in All..
8.5/10
Can't wait for #2 on June 15th.
Also, my local store was sold out of all the Variant covers except the blank. Basically they sold 40 copies today. It's a big seller everywhere it seems.

I mean, it's part of his upgraded personality, and I'm okay with it because let's face it, sexism still exist but reading all his lines didn't let "the hot chick" one be so "heavy". I hope it won't happen too many times in the future, but for now, I don't mind it.

I'm trying not to judge the characters till we get more background. Like there could be a reason Daphne is a little hardened or Fred is a little naive or Shaggy and his hot or cute comments. Scooby seems right on the money. But for a first issue it was great.

Consider if Velma said Fred was "a smoking hot... Whatever the male equivalent of babe is" or Daphne mentioning Tha Shaggy was "Cute".
But I agree that it shouldn't be the focus, perhaps they'll be a scene where Daphne and Velma discuss the boys in a similar fashion.

...when Fred punched Velma in the face... That I find disturbing. IMO violence against a woman is an pretty much an absolute no-no, in self-defense maybe, but for someone of Fred's size to punch Velma in the face is unacceptable under any circumstances.

My main issue was he said it to Daph's face and right behind Velma.

An apocalypse is a new circumstance? It was accidental too.

Normally I get an email on Wednesday morning saying my stuff has been dispatched, the store was so busy with the whole DC Rebirth launch and the associated mail-orders that they they ended up shipping it Thursday lunchtime. Does anyone know when the sales figures will be available? Not for a while. April's just came out the other day. The link below. You will find the may and other month sales at this site when they come out as well. www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/2016/2016-04.htmlAnd it's funny. My local store doesn't even order Team Up or Where Are You at all. So they never sell that. And here Scooby Apocalypse is flying out of stores. But in that link above you can see why they don't order Team Up or Where Are You cause those don't sell well at all. Scooby Doo Where Are You #68 sold 4,892 copies in April. Basically Apocalypse #1 is gonna do real well. It's gonna destroy the 4,000 and change the others do every month. Won't be shocked if it's in the Top 15 of May. Cause of Rebirth it will be down but will do well. Future Quest should do really well as well. The artist from that is from my town in Michigan actually. haha. So it looks like the HB line will be a success at least early on. Wacky Raceland comes out June 8th and then in July Flintstones. So we won't know those numbers for a while.

A day after the comic came out I tried 3 different comic stores and couldnt find it anywhere! All sold out Finally picked up a copy today. I LOVE it! I have been waiting for a side series like this for years! I have said this once and always will say this, one of my favorite things about the scooby-doo franchise is that they have all different types of media going on at once. We have all these different options to see our fave characters in different types of styles, and different situations. I really enjoyed how the characters were introduced in this first issue and I am looking forward to seeing where this story line is going to go. I want to wait a few more issues before I give a full opinion. Right now this was just kind of the introduction to the characters and plot.

Well it's going to be a long wait till the next issue. I loved it, the artwork, the dialogue, the story. There are lots of hints of backstory that I hope will be teased out as time goes on and as they get to know each other. I'm particularly interested in Shaggy, Scooby & Velma's backstory as they have worked at the complex for years as well as Velma's relationship with The Four and her path from being involved in the project to a whistleblower. And as for Daphne's outbursts, I can see what's driving her, the show is 'her' she's got so much invested in it both emotionally and psychologically. You don't see Daphne, more the Daphne who's been put through the wringer both by the network and herself that it's taken its toll. Shaggy is epic, he's on point when it's needed, defending Scooby and in standing up to Velma and Daphne. And as for Fred, there wasn't much, but he will get his chance to shine. All in all there is so much potential here.
One thing you can say is that Shaggy isn't, and probably hasn't been 'medicated'. To work on military projects you will need security clearance and as he as unrestricted access to the 'technology' and because of the nature of the facility, I'd guess he's cleared to at least SECRET which I would assume includes a check for drugs and alcohol.
