I'm suprised there hasn't been more totem pole monsters anywhere else across the Scooby Doo franchise. Those things are plain creepy static. A "living" one running around is a brillant idea for a monster and could be quite creepy in the right circumstances.
Regardless this was a good episode in general, especially with Shaggy's antics at the beginning and the catchy Totem Pole Guy song.

There's also one in one of the Italian Scooby-Doo books, but that's it.

It seems a little strange that a Totem Pole monster or a similar monsters with North West Coast Aboroginal (I refuse to use Native American/Canadian as everyone born in America or Canada is native to that country and land, not just them) influences. Whilst their art is usually quite nice looking, I wouldn't mind obtain some of their art myself one day, but you can't deny it can be creepy as hell in the right circumstances. I suppose it's easier to just come up with a generic monster (something like a vampire, werewolf, or sludge ghoul) or some ancient aztec thing instead. Still I'd love to see another Totem Pole monster! It's just such a cool yet logical idea!

I have to disagree with you, I don't think a totem pole monster would be very interesting, I'd rather just have a regular monster, I think seeing a totem pole chasing the gang around would just be weird.

Fair enough, it is weird. However if executed right (eg it was drawn/designed in linage of the SDWAY or 1998-2001 movies sorta designs) and made to be not comical it could be quite "creepy" as it were. It would have been creepy in A Pup if that show wasn't so comical...kinda like how none of Be Cool's monsters are scarying since that show is more comical than spooky/creepy/horror related. I'm just bored of seeing werewolves, vampires, ancient aztec statues, sea monsters, slime monsters and "ghost" tribals being used over and over again you see. It'd be nice to have some more variety for once.
