You need a great first episode to make people want to watch the rest, and this one did the trick.

I'm disappointed the Batman flashlight joke from the pitch didn't make it to the final cut. I was looking forward to that, only for it not to be in there.

I wrote that scene for the episode before I actually wrote the episode. It all worked well for the animation test it was written for, but within the context of the episode, everyone thought it went on too long.

I wondered if that was the case (or if WB asked for it to be removed).

Kingston University was going to be the Scooby-Doo! 2002 Live action setting. They finally used it.
Good pilot episode. Velma was a bit bossy.

Where did you hear this about Kingston University for the 2002 live action movie? I made up the college based on the monster from the 1969 classic episode in January of 2014. It seems like a HUGE coincidence that another writer made the same college based on the same classic monster. Glad you liked the pilot. Velma was a bit on edge, so, yeah, she being bossy. Thanks, JCB

I thought it was strange when Daphne did a funny accent (she also points it out) with one of the puppets.

Since Kingston is so prestigious would Velma really turn it down so easily. She's like "Yeah, I'm just going to take a break" as if they'd just wait for her. For me, it also ties with the gang's whole avoidance of doing real things, even at this point in their lives where they've supposedly graduated, they're still flimsy on doing anything real (the words I chose aren't meant to sound disrespectful, just from my point of view), but then they're still teenagers not sure with what they're doing.
Velma still hasn't exactly worked on her people skills.

Velma still hasn't exactly worked on her people skills. Well she has a place so what's the rush? Also, that decision is a lot more mature than it sounds, it's easy to do stuff because that's what's expected of you, so to step back and say that they'll take some time out to do other stuff is good. It's not unusual for people to do a 'gap year' between leaving school and starting university to go off and do stuff, travel, voluntary work and so on. Velma's just doing a gap year. It would also look good on her CV for when she finally graduates.

Really odd if he hadn't read that script. I was just like, oh Kingston... like in the screenplay.
