At least that what it feels like. The character assassination Scrappy received in this movie was so over-the-top and obsessive even the average Scrappy hater should be ashamed. I mean "scrote"? "No urinating on Daphne?" etc?
That, along with the extremely juvenile toilet humor in the movie, makes this one nigh unwatchable (and only required viewing only once for the completist Scooby fan).

They did seem to bash Scrappy somewhat in this film. Funny thing is Scrappy is not my least favorite character. Daphne is.

Yeah, and it didn't help that the screenwriter admitted several times (Before and after release) That he hated Scrappy's guts. Apparently a live-action adaptation had been considered since 1996, but nothing had come of it before because they didn't really have the proper technology to make it work. But then later, Around 2000, things finally began to start shaping together. James Gunn, the same guy who would later write Guardians of The Galaxy, Scooby-Doo 2, and GotG2, was QUITE ecstatic about a chance to write about Scooby-Doo...and get rid of Scrappy. "I hate Scrappy's guts," Gunn reported to Starfox magazine shortly before the movie's release. "Our whole goal was to destroy Scrappy forever."Even facing the tremendous backlash of his decision, Mr. Gunn did not relent his opinion. "He's a little CENSORED." James Gunn said during a Guardians Of The Galaxy interview, though immediately noting that some of the younger viewers were "Very, very upset." When Questioned on Twitter at his choice, James Gunn merely answered, "Because Scrappy is just a completely CENSORED awful person." It was not only Mr. Gunn on the Scooby-Doo team who had an aversion to Scrappy, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard both seem to have a dislike for the character. Given the actual content of the movie, I'm sure this information will surprise nobody in the slightest, but you may as well have all the facts.

Sheesh, someone takes cartoon dogs a little too seriously. Did Scrappy set his house on fire or something? But yeah, I used to watch this movie a lot as a kid but now I don't much care for it. It's gained quite a following over the years as a classic early 2000s teen flick, but I honestly hate what they did with the characters looking back and the fact that it influenced how a lot of people see the characters. It would have been nice had the movie gone for more of a direction that honored the franchise rather than just being a parody of it.

It's one thing to portray Scrappy in a negative way as a "joke" but to say you want to ruin him forever is another story. Interesting to know the motivation behind why they made Scrappy the villain.

personal animus, clearly Instead of making Scooby the Villan just have the gang send him back to his parents - Ruby Doo and her unnamed husband.

OK, so I checked out a copy of the DVD for this thing and listened to the two commentaries. Rewatching this hasn't endeared the movie anymore to me but learning more about why they did what they did to Scrappy to made it worth it enough to handle. The cast commentary didn't tell me much. They all agree with James Gunn and mostly talked about how nobody liked Scrappy citing a poll on Entertainment weekly or something like that, and Matthew Lillard called the making scrappy the villain twist "Genius." The producers commentary (Chuck Roven and Richard Suckle) apparently believe Scrappy fits the bill better then anonymous monster, (And I'm sitting there thinking, "If Scrappy fit the bill so well, why did you guys have to change his entire personality?!") They also originally weren't going to have Mondavarious an actual person beyond Scrappy's disguise but they found Mondavarious to be so likeable that they did it. I think that tid bit on Mondavarious is another Scrappy jab but I could be making mountains out of molehills, right? They also talked about how the business side influenced their choice, (they talked about that A LOT) but they didn't mind. They it's true they wrote an alternate ending where old man Smithers was the ultimate villain, but they still went with Scrappy). However, the "Trivia" that Tim Curry decided not to play Mondavarious because Scrappy was in it I am beginning to think is just something someone made up. Neither commentary mentioned him, and they talked a lot about how they went out of their way to get Rowan Atkinson on board, never once talking about Tim Curry. I think that Scrappy always a group of people who hated him, but there were also enough people who liked him. 2002 was the tipping point. But sometimes I wonder what would have happened if they hadn't hated Scrappy so much?

I myself hated the maker of that movie for making Scrappy Doo the bad guy. I remember being very disappointed after seeing it in theaters in 2002. It's a shame I really like Guardians of the Galaxy movies but frankly if he hated Scrappy and wanted to make him the bad guy they shouldn't have chosen him. What a huge middle finger to anyone who liked Scrappy.

Thank you,Doo. I like your avatar and wanted to change it to the one you had. But when I downloaded the image and tried to upload it as my avatar, it wouldn't let me.
