Quite an interesting episode. But I'd prefer it if the monster had the abilities it had in the live-action film...

A fairly good episode. I liked the ending scene with Scooby Doo in the treasure room!

Pretty cool how they camp and cook with an archeologist. The Byzantian city is actually real.
I love it when Shaggy and Scooby cook food together... one of them always goofs.

Epic monster, but not my favorite episode.

While the monster is classic, I can't say this was my favorite episode though. I did like seeing the gang exploring an ancient city though.

This was a pretty average episode. I liked exploring the city and the very unique monster

The look of it was obviously inspired by the cyclops-eyed Martian in the 1953 WAR OF THE WORLDS movie.

Honestly, I know that the Tar monster is iconic for Scooby Doo, but I never got into him. He wasn't creepy and was sorta bland in my opinion. The episode overall was meh.

I believe this was the first ever Scooby Doo episode of this series that I've watched. I get starry-eyed over this one. Great villian, atmosphere, setpieces. It has aged very well imo.
Rating: 10/10

I wonder if Stoner placed some large concrete cylinders through each end of the tar pit so that all the tar would reform around the cylinders, allowing him to then create tunnels through the concrete, then cover it up with patches of fake tar. That's the only way it could even be remotely possible for him to enter those ruins through the tar pools. Swimming through tar is impossible. I also think the culprit who use video projectors place some sort of flat, painted surfaces all over the place to act as screens for the images they're projecting.

ICONIC monster but the episode beyond that was pretty basic. Pretty solid episode all around though

This is ONE of the best episodes of the series imo. It's a very original concept that balances story/action wonderfully.

This is ONE of the best episodes of the series imo. It's a very original concept that balances story/action wonderfully. After watching it again, I don't necessarily have the same feelings about it. The way how this episode starts is really good especially the camp scenes. I did say 10/10 awhile ago going off memory but I don't know what rating id give it now?

I love the opening 10 mins or so at the camp site but it kinda devolves into multiple Shaggy/Scooby gags real fast. The underground city is a neat idea but could've been explored much more.
