Was I the only one that noticed in the scene where Shaggy revealed the secret entrance, his hair is blonde instead of the normal brown? Nope, I noticed that too. There are a LOT of animation mistakes in this series!

one if the best episodes ever. The sound effects and design of Captain Cutler is great. The scene with widow Cutler is great. I love the underwater scenes and the haunted dock and marina setting is great

I also enjoyed this episode! An especially interesting case with the culprit pretending to be the ghost of himself. Plenty of fun and amusing moments. Anyone else catch the part where Shaggy briefly has blond hair? Observations: - The beach where the gang hang out at is named Rocky Point Beach. - Shaggy eats chocolate covered hot dogs, a fact of which disgusts Velma. - Shaggy states his first toy was a garbage disposal. It is unclear if he was joking. - Scooby asks Shaggy to transcribe one of the labels in Mrs. Cutler’s house. This implies that though Scooby can talk, he can not read. The "Hassle in the Castle" episode does imply he is trying to learn. - Shaggy is the first to identify the man behind Captain Cutler’s Ghost as Captain Cutler himself. Add in Shaggy isn't good at Math. 2+2=4 not 5.

Definitely one of my favorites out of the very early episodes in a series where the middle is generally the most consistently sweet spot. Captain Cutler is one of the most iconic villains in the franchise

This had some hilarious moments with Shaggy and Scooby. The comedic timing is just so much better than the last episodes and movies I don’t even get how that is possible. Another joke that is so funny to me is when Scooby falls on the diving suit and the boat guy calls him out, however in Italian they translated it into him making fun of Scooby by calling him “Stupi-doo” and it’s freaking funny.

This episode is thick with a spooky atmosphere and I appreciate that they held off on showing Cutler's Ghost (which is so simple yet iconic). Sure, we see wee snippets of him at the beginning to kick start the mystery but the gang don't encounter him again until they're underwater. I admire their restraint & focus on the mystery surrounding the ghost, instead. Absolutely love the seaside vistas & the underwater segments look fantastic for a 60's cartoon ... The water filter added over the animation is genuinely impressive. I agree that this is probably one of the strongest early episodes because I adore this one.
Mystery: 9.5/10 Villain: 9/10 Setting: 10/10
Overall Score: 9.5/10

This episode almost has a John Carpenter eerie feeling to it. A decade before The Fog came out, too!

Y'know what - after rewatching this ep. this morning, it's now up to a 10/10! It's crazy how they created a masterpiece so early in the shows run.

Plot: A Scoby Doo Classic. Also the first cool plot twist in the history of the franchise 9/10 Set Up: Not much to say here. The lighthouse was quite creepy, and the ship graveyard gave me chills as a kid due to my deep-sea fear. Apart from that, it's average. 7/10 Monster: Hot take alert... I believe that Cutler's ghost in Scooby Doo 2 was actually scarier. Despite the fact that it was clear he was just a guy in a diving suit, he still managed to be an iconic and chilling villain in this episode though. 7/10
BONUS (not counting in the final score unless it is 7/10 or more) Nostalgia Boost: I enjoyed it as a child, but it didn't rank among my absolute favorites 7/10
Overall, it's considered an instant classic within the series, but personally, there are other episodes that I enjoy more. Still very good episode
Fiinal score 8.4/10
