I'm all for inclusivity, but I don't think it does the LGBT community any favors by making the short-haired girl who's espoused women's-lib views in the past and around whom lesbian rumors have been floating around for forever - predictably lesbian.
I actually think making her out to be straight would do much better, proving to kids that looks don't definite sexuality - but that's just me.

I still say Marcie just saw Velma as the sister she never had. I think Velma was probably asexual by the end of Mystery Inc.

I don't care what anybody says. Velma and Marcy were just friends.

I asked Tony to settle this once and for all. So here you go! Whether you like it or not it was their intention to make her sexuality fluctuate in season 2. Which clearly explains her being extremely aggressive towards Shaggy, she really wanted the relationship to work because she herself had doubts!! Everything makes sense. Also, in the comment I posted under his post, to which he replied in private after deleting the public response (tho I got the screenshot in time) he said that during the apocalypse time, Marcie and Velma did not have to time to evolve in a fully fledged couple because of the messy times that were ahead, that’s what he means in the text below.

Tony's reply seems to hint that Velma was only into girls which is why her relationship with Shaggy didn't work, but there's not really a way to know for Hot Dog Water.

*Sigh* I know this can get prickly so I'll just leave it like this and try not to continue further: Look at the current social climate in 2020. No way, when pressed over Velma's sexuality in SDMI, was the creator NOT going to say they were a couple during pride month.
That said, Velma's very rarely shown interest that way in other people throughout the entire franchise, and when she has, it's been pretty much 100% in dudes both before and after MI.

There's several points in response to that. MI pushed a lot of boundaries in regards to normal Scooby fare. The shows both before and after played it safe, in my view, too safe. Velma really hasn't gotten the focus that Fred and Daphne have gotten over the years, and I think her having relationships is a good way to flesh out her character besides " brain of the team " . Having Marcie around was a good thing for Velma and vice versa. I personally would like to see Marcie return in a future series, one that is similar to MI , except for the relationship drama

I think it'd be more refreshing to make her straight and NOT reinforce the lazy stereotype. Like I posted before, about every time she's been hinted at having an interest in someone outside of MI/HDW, it's been a guy.

...Like I posted before, about every time she's been hinted at having an interest in someone outside of MI/HDW, it's been a guy. Yeah, and what a dysfunctional bunch of characters she's been lumbered with. Ben Ravencroft - Evil, manipulative wizard bent on taking over the world Gibby Norton (WNSD) - An obsessive stalker Jason Wyatt (SD:MI) - See Gibby Norton Shaggy Rogers (SD:MI)- Duplicitous coward (Note: the Fred/Daphne relationship was just as toxic as the Shaggy/Velma one but hey, gotta have 'drama') Winsor (Legend of the Phantosaur) - Criminal, manipulative. So aside from Adam from Lego Scooby-Doo! Knight Time Terror she has never had a normal, functional relationship; never been paired with someone who wasn't a stalker, a criminal or where the relationship was just there for 'drama'. So I'll take a Velma/HDW relationship anytime over the toxic sludge that she's been offered elsewhere, or one with Adam.

I actually thought (though I wasn't a fan of it regardless) that they did Velma's split with Shaggy reallllly awkwardly. They made it out like Velma thought Shaggy and Scooby were doing more than finding and raiding the local kitchen every time the gang split, if you catch my drift, lol. I mean, it wasn't like Velma hasn't had years and years to notice Shaggy and Scooby were best buds, smh. They probably couldn't come up with a better excuse to split them, so they opted for something like that. Not cool, writers, not cool, haha.
And yeah, I know none of her previous setups were ideal, but to paraphrase that classic OA meme "People are straight, Stephanie", haha

There was also this fun little bit during the "Scoobynatural" episode (https://youtu.be/jgE8PEUMre4?t=70), the evidence from most versions of Scooby is stacked pretty heavily against the idea Velma is LGBT (not that there's anything wrong with that), and that a former writer just wanted some brownie points during an opportune time with that post.
