Anyone who loves HB cartoons know those specific episode where a background character/s always seem so much more worked out that you can't help but think they were an abandoned pitch or were trying to get one of their own. The band in this episode always gave me that vibe. HB also as we know had plenty of teen sleuth series, i wonder if the band from this episode were to be one as well.
I also notice as why the band itself didn't have a funny animal partner, the episode does pair a comical frog with Scooby and Shaggy. I bet there's some plans involving these kids having been made back then.

possibly. the thing with potential series it depends on ratings, fan and studio interest, and timing. having another ' meddling kids group with talking sidekick' was kinda played out by the late 70s, you had josie, the funky phantom, jabberjaw and others all copying scooby by that point.

That's an interesting theory. HB never really handled their other shows well though. They never really made it past 13-16 episodes with only ONE season. Josie was the Scooby "clone" to escape this, but they went "far out" with their "Outer Space" adventures. I mean, I enjoyed that incarnation, but I wish we had seen more of them on earth as well. It also seems like they never finished the "Outer Space" series, and it's a shame too, I would have loved more Josie and bubblegum pop songs.

It's also just a natural part of the medium. Broadcast tv eats up many shows in one season in both live action and animated. (and let's not kid ourselves a lot of cable shows would be the same if they had to fight it out on one of the major networks for ratings and marketing these days) Especially in their big heydays when they were producing shows for all three channels, the idea that some would not live to see season two, was pretty much unavoidable. But to make up for that working with formulas that could be easily switched up with new characters and keeping the same style pretty much allowed for us to get the chance to see a bunch of different adventures.
And then of course several of which got to have a decent afterlife in group shows and crossovers. And to be honest i'm still less than thrilled HB didn't get more resources to do more of those at the end. But that's how it went, but it's still nice to dream.

Interesting to note that this episode contains unique material that parallels with Zombie Island.
