Do you like the original smarter version of Fred better, or do you like the more dimwitted version of him in later series?

I liked the smart Fred better, although I like the SDMI version of Fred. At some times, I liked the WNSD Fred, but I hated the Pup Named Scooby Doo Fred. I think they went overboard in Pup, they made Fred seem like he could barely open a doorknob.

None of them were supposed to be dumb. I prefer Smart Fred, Resourceful Danger Prone Daphne, Geeky Velma, The World's Fastest Calorie Burning Fraidy Cats Shaggy & Scooby

fred isnt dumb, hes just preoccupied with traps in MI, and has a fixation on Red Herring in PUp.

In some of the movies Fred often comes across as a bit of a big kid (in a good way, child-like not childish), enthusiasm, selective attention and the like which can make him a good comedy vehicle.

Maybe a better word to use is Dimwitted or more childish. Sorry if I confused anyone.

No, i felt Dumb was accurate. Fred in Pup was below Dimwitted. In SDMI he's been, well, Overzealous.

Yes it is. He's been doing more steroids than most bodybuilders it looks like. It makes him look like a bad crossdresser. But, he's still got his gigs in LV and Branson, so, can't make to much fun of him. She should be Red Herring in a Scooby Doo 3, rofl.

I like SD:MI Fred. I think it's the perfect blend of smart, and not really dimwitted...but emotionally stunted. Plus, I like the idea of Fred having Asperger Syndrome. Which is what I feel is a legitimate possibility in SD:MI

I don't think when they originally had Frank Welker for Freddy they realized he was better for comedy than as a straight man, so from the modern takes they let Freddy be more funny.
I'm guessing in the silly word of canon he was either hiding his silliness or had some help during his high school years lol.

Warner Brothers really hasn't done this character (well, all of the characters actually) any justice. Fred was never my favorite, but at least he was tolerable in the Hanna-Barbera era. Mystery Incorporated really felt disappointing in the aspect of what they did to the character. It was unbearable, what they did to our gang. So, I prefer the original Fred. Not that he's my favorite of the bunch anyway....

WB has done him some justice, but not really much. HB made him as an excellent, resourceful, smart character and WB just kind of took that all down. They made him not as smart as he should be. He is still somewhat resourceful, but not really. As far as the excellent goes , it isn't much right now.
