From the best SD:MI episode so far to the most kick-butt one! Plenty of action for everyone, and Blue Falcon's now a Frank Miller Dark Knight psycho super hero! Works for me! My, how the mighty have fallen, eh, Mr. E? You've become a joke! As for Dog Wonder, he's actually pretty competent here. And the Jonny Quest villain Dr. Zin was a hoot! Crossovers for everyone! I wonder if there will be a new Jonny Quest coming soon, since they keep referencing it on SD:MI? Fun episode, and a mild break from the previous episodes. Only one more until the hiatus...

BTW, is the villain and his daughter from either original series? Zin is, but I never knew he had a daughter. They never showed her. By the way, the original Jonny Quest was a GREAT cartoon, one of the best ever. If you can, try and see it. Currently, it's on Boomerang at 5:30 p.m. on the east coast. You know how the Japanese treat their anime like we treat live action shows, with drama--? Well, that's how JQ was. it was a cartoon, but it was REAL violent. People died, and STAYED dead. Loved it. ;D

I LOVED this episode. It was just as fun as "The Mystery Solvers State Finals" episode, and I enjoyed not only adding Dynomutt and the Blue Falcon (they've crossed over with the Scooby gang a few times back in 1976), but the appearances by Dr. Quest and Race Bannon as well. I do wish they had Gary Owens reprise the role of the Blue Falcon, like he did once when the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt both guest-starred on a "Dexter's Laboratory" episode in 1998. I also loved hearing all those old Hanna-Barbera sound effects throughout the episode. I've missed hearing them quite a bit in this series (there were several with none at all, some with only one or two; it could be rather inconsistent), and it was also one reason why I disliked "What's New, Scooby-Doo" (the show abandoning the H-B SFX in most cases.) I mean, just because they're old doesn't mean they can still be heard in new stuff!

Blue Falcon's voice didn't sound right to me.

I really enjoyed this episode and their take on BF and Dynomutt. Recently Boomerang was showing All-Star Laff-a-Lympics during the Olympics, so that was a nice taste of classic BF and Dyno before this episode to whet my appetite. The episode didn't disappoint.
The dark knight parody was a hoot imo, and I found the interactions between Dyno and BF even funnier for that contrast. Here BF's trying to be all dark and broody, and he's paired with this adorably silly Dynomutt. It worked. I also found myself glad that they dropped the "Dog Blunder" comments and let Dyno be a bit more kickbutt here, while still bringing plenty of humor to the table. Since the plot was so much about BF's love for Dyno, I think the old-school putdowns would have set the wrong tone in such a short amount of time. You have to be really judicious about what you show with only 22 minutes of airtime.
Race and Dr. Quest's reappearance was just the icing and cherry on the cake, and Zin always makes a great baddie. This episode made me long for more crossovers or even reboots by the team behind SDMI.
Definitely had that same nostalgic fun as the Mystery Solver's State Finals episode.

OK, reading all these reviews I'm probably the only one who DIDN'T like the episode.
If you watched the original 1976 Dynomutt episodes, you'll know this is nothing like it. In 1976, Blue Falcon was kind-hearted but was still a little mean. But this Blue Falcon was just savage and angry.
But if you get past that aspect, it was a good episode.

I did notice the difference in Blue Falcon's personality.

Sorry that you didn't like this one, Doo. BF did have a pretty intense personality transplant as you noted. To me BF has always been very Batman-esque, so I just wrote the change off as reflecting the progression of the Adam West Batman into today's Frank Miller style Batman. BF's new attitude seems to spoof that to me. That view doesn' t necessarily work for everyone though, and that's cool.

As a HUGE fan of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns, I had an equally HUGE grin on my face throughout this whole episode. I think Jeepers nailed exactly what they were going for in her post above mine.
In a neat coincidence, Warner Bros (whatever they are calling the remains of Warner premiere) is releasing an animated version of Dark Knight Returns in two parts, with the first DTV coming in September.

I've never been a fan of Dynomutt, but this version was an improvement. The fact that he works for a psycho vigilante and that he will cheerfully pop up dental equipment to torture Mr. E, or happily agree to use lethal force, gives him his own touch of much-needed creepiness for the first time.

Never seen Blue Falcon/Dynomutt outside of the Laff-a-lympics shows but I did like them in this show. There again I used to read Judge Dredd as a kid. So I agree with rocksummer on Blue Falcon/Dynomutt and this was one cracking episode.

Okay...so Jonny Quest homages and Blue Falcon who has gone down the path of Frank Miller Batman? Yes PLZ. Yes, Yes, Yes. I've always been a Jonny Quest fan so this episode was bound to be loved by me. It strikes me as Season 2's answer to the Mystery Solvers episode of season 1. This and the Krampus episode back to back was GREAT. Loved it. I also loved that Dyno Mutt was pretty much the same while Blue Falcon got grittied up.

It's not really the episode I disliked, but I really didn't like how they changed Blue Falcon. Even when he and Dynomutt appeared in the Dexter's Lab episode they were still the same.
