What did you think of Scooby Doo Mystery Inc?

I'm still a little mixed, but I liked it overall. It definitely has more of a modern CN style, both in humor and story. Reminded me of something like Ben 10 a little.
Funny but some of it seemed familiar, especially at the beginning when Velma's doing the tour. The town name and sign, and weaving the old episodes into the museum tour. Funny but Don Knott's was in the crowd! There's a lot of nods to the old eps like that.
I'll definitely be anxious to see more episodes. It's different take, but overall I like it so far. Will have to watch it again though maybe tomorrow.

Overall I liked the sneak peek and I think the series is going to be very good; the animation had kind of an interesting style to it, actually it did remind me a little bit of Anime like Yu-Gi-Oh; it was pretty interesting that the gang's parents were all there as well, especially since Daphne's, Shaggy's and Velma's folks haven't been seen since PNSD, although Daphne's were in an episode of the New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show although they looked much different in this show.
The plot reminds me a lot of the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo and Dark Shadows; Dark Shadows in that the action takes place in one location pretty much and 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo in that there's pretty much one continuing story arc.
This series to me sounds a lot like a modern version of the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo; actually i've always thought that if they did that series with Fred and Velma and without Scrappy, it would have done just fine; plus for the moment it looks like there are 19 episodes for this season so this show is going to last a bit longer than 13 Ghosts(knock on wood).
Crystal Cove was kind of interesting, I never thought that the town was a renamed Coolsville although that's certainly possible; the fact that the gang was wearing their old outfits(Fred and Daphne especially) kind of made me feel like I was watching a 2010 version of Scooby Doo Where Are You actually.
The locals(and their parents) not liking the gang solving mysteries was an interesting plot twist, although a lot of private detectives have to deal with authorities that don't like them solving cases(like the radio series Harry Nile which I like listening to).
The Shaggy and Velma dating thing and the Fred and Daphne romance thing were very suprising and very cool; finally it seems that the writers of the show are listening to what the fans actually want and I think both couples have potential.
As for the story and writing, I think the writers have finally learned how to get all the characters down by combining the classic feel of the series and update the characters and show just enough to make each generation of fans happy.
The feel of the show was pretty cool, and it did seem a lot like SD on Zombie Island/SD Abracadabra Doo; I think the show finally has a good combination dark, spooky atmosphere for the mystery element and good comedic and romantic moments to make it a great addition to the Scooby franchise.
Actually considering the number of episodes that the season is going to be, the writing, the plot and the characters the show reminds me a lot of a show that could air on a major network in primetime(now there's an idea).
Overall this looks to be an excellent addition to the Scooby franchise; great writing, great plot, overall a great show altogether, too bad the show doesn't air again until the summer, that was a great cliff-hangar to end the preview; just like Who Shot J.R. in the 80's and Who Shot Mr. Burns in the 90's, I think the whole "Who is Mr. E?" thing will be talked about(at least with Scooby fans) through the spring and into the summer until the show airs.
I thought the Vincent Van Ghoul reference was cool, and I half expected Velma to respond to Shaggy's statement by saying "Who?", considering she wasn't on that show. Also, I liked Velma's hair bow, she looked pretty cute with it.
I didn't think much of it but it does seem like all the gang's parents are rich, not just Daphne's; Fred's dad being the mayor of the town was cool though. I thought them having no musical chase scenes was pretty good too, it brought it back to the first season of Where Are You?. Also, having no theme was interesting too.

If the rest of the episodes are like this, this is going to end up one of my favorite Scooby series. I like how they fleshed out the characters more and there's finally a sense of continuity[it seems to be in continuity with Scooby Doo: Where Are You rather than Pup/What's New}. I also like all the references to past villains, even a reference to Vincent Van Ghoul, lol. Fred stealing the body was hilarious. The animation wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it still looks good. The show also has a bit of a darker tone than past series{more like Zombie Island}. They did a really nice job of balancing that and the more lighthearted momrents.

Nickel and SpiderScooby,
Agree with pretty much everything you wrote. It did feel more like WAY? with a modern approach. Almost like it takes place right after WAY? considering all the original villains in the museum.
Anime is a good comparison too. I think the spooky/humor balance is very good but different. The humor this time is more subtle and tied to the situation. More tongue-in-cheek and less silly slapstick. I like that in the old eps of course, but this is a nice change and fits the direction they seem to be going in. Kind of a more sophisticated approach. And I was glad to see that the funny nods to the past didn't go so far as to make fun of the original. It's odd but this one seems very respectful of the original while being very different too.
I liked the cliffhanger at the end, and the continuing story that will probably spring from it. It sounds like one of those story lines that will reveal a little more over time, but still allow each episode to stand alone and tackle a different unrelated villain each week. In that sense I don't think it'll be as much like The 13 Ghosts.
Neat to read the Dark Shadows comparisons. I'm a big fan and have been rewatching the old eps on DVD.
Speaking of other shows, the scene at Daphne's home with her parents and sisters reminded me a little of Edwards home and family in Twilight. The house had all those windows and that spartan look, and her dad looked a little like Edwards 'dad'. And the sisters standing in the background was a little weird...sorta like the vamp brood. Don't know if that was intentional considering how popular those movies are, but that's what I thought of.
Funny, but the only thing I'm not too sure about is Velma's more sarcastic attitude. It works for what they're doing, but I think it's the biggest departure in character personality and I'll have to wait and see. Until summer I guess. Oh well.

Yeah, Fred's dad is much different than what he was in Pirates Ahoy. He was a lot different than Pirates Ahoy, although the various exclamations from Fred's dad pretty much fit Fred's WNSD personality.

I thought it was OK. The reference to Vincent Van Ghoul was funny, and the monster was cool. It was kinda strange with the Velma and Shaggy being together thing, and Shaggy not telling Scooby about that. It kinda seems like The 13 Ghosts a little, I wonder if they'll have to catch a certain amount of ghosts and monsters and put them somewhere.

Yeah it did seem a lot like 13 Ghosts(that's what I thought back when I first read about the series); I think it would be interesting if they did have to capture a certain number of ghosts or monsters and put them in something like the Chest of Demons. Actually the Mr. E character reminds me a little of Vincent Van Ghoul; basically a character that helps the gang out when they need it and advises them in their adventures(albeit from the shadows, so to speak).

What did you think about the episode not having a theme song? I wish there was one but the title card was cool.

Watched again tonight and noticed something else. The show has a real 70's retro look throughout. Not just the gangs old clothes, but everyone dresses like that pretty much. Fred's dad has old style big rimmed glasses, and the way the lady DJ is dressed.
And lots of old technology too. The tourists have old Kodak cameras with the big flash cubes, and at the radio station there's a couple phonographs and reel to reel tape decks, but no CD players or anything new looking. Even the phone has a cord. And Velma holds up a little cassette recorder during the tour.
I almost thought maybe it was supposed to be set right after the original shows, instead of being in 2010. But then Velma mentions texting and once or twice you see a computer. But the modern features are kept very low-key and in the background, unlike WNSD?.
Thought it was interesting.
Regarding the lack of a theme song and all, I wonder how much will change between now and when the show airs this summer?
Oh, also noticed the ep title has "Chapter 1" before it. Definitely a continuing story line.

Me neither =)
I thought it a little odd that it had no intro of any sorts, but I guess it will get one when they really start the series.

It was a little surprising that there was no theme song. I do think they will have a theme song in later episodes, just like in 13 Ghosts. Maybe the reason for not having a theme song was maybe the same reason there was no theme song in the 1st episode of 13 Ghosts, because it might be revealing something they may not want you to know yet.
