Scrappy was the product of a popular meme at the time. Give the popular character (such as Scooby or Godzilla) a little clone/sidekick. Unfortunately, most of these clones were either unnecessary or sucked the energy out of the series like scrappy.

or Gadzuki.does a 50 feet tall monster really need a 6 foot pipsqueak around who can't even breathe fire? But hey it was the 70s a lot of bad decisions were made in that decade (SuperGlobetrotters? Josie and the Pussycats in Space? the robotic stooges? )

I won't hate on the Robonic Stooges--at least it had the savvy to know it was stupid.
One of the most pointless changes was to the 1978 Fantastic Four cartoon DePatie-Freleng made. Johnny Storm (the Human Torch) was replaced by an R2-D2 knockoff called Herbie. This was probably invoked by NBC who feared children may set themselves on fire emulating Johnny. (In the comic book, he explained his absence from the cartoon as being out of the country when the contracts were signed.)

Scooby Dum and Dixie, perhaps his sister ruby as well, and have them appear from time to time in Season 2. The mystery machine can hold 6. it makes since that any new character should be a female companion to Scooby, since they've already explored the relationship of the humans, its time for Scooby to be smitten. Or you can have it be casual. " yeah I'm his girlfriend, I'm not looking for more than that', kind of thing.

I seem to have lesser memories on a lot of this run than compared to the first two seasons with Richie Rich. Maybe they just aired those more, but this was the season where the trio are now working for the Fearless Detective Agency. Some of the episodes have pretty good memories but even though still when i think of Scooby and Scrappy shorts it seems my mind often goes more of the first two seasons.
This is also the season with the Yabba Doo shorts, where again i only seem to have caught about half of them on CN in the past. I remember them being like some of HB's other western attempts, where they were good but seemed like they ran on far less steam then when HB tackled westerns back in the 60s.
And i'll go on record saying i have zero problems with the majority of things complained about in this thread. I liked Scrappy Doo, Godzooky, Super Globetrotters, Josie in Space, Robonic Stooages, etc as a kid and still do today. HERBIE i'm indifferent one since the 80s FF is the only one i really liked, but still HERBIE pops up from time to time in other media since his inclusion, so the little guy isn't that bad even if i'm not much of a fan of the show that introduced him.

Like mattpricetime, I have no problem with Scrappy himself, it was the complete lack of mysteries/monsters in these series (second part of Scooby and Scrappy show, too!) that made them so bone-dry boring for me.

The series got pretty weird, but I like weird, so that was cool. And they could be pretty hilarious, for me anyway. They were unique, and I haven't seen all of them but I do like what I have seen. My favorites are "Punk Rock Scooby", "Tenderbigfoot", "Scooby Goo", "Who's Scooby Doo?" "Scooby Doo and Genie Poo" "South Seas Scare" and "Scooby goes to Oz", and there are probably some more I'm forgetting. But yeah, personally I liked it.

He's burning eyeballs out if you see him too long. That's ridiculous. As for myself, I personally liked this series. Especially the "Uncle Fearless" mission episodes. The best episode in my opinion was "Who's Scooby-Doo"?

Lack of Daphne during the 1982-83 season made for a dull series. Thank goodness it would be the last season without Daphne.
