Hi,
I'm a Scooby fan going way back, but have just recently started rediscovering it all. I'm guessing I probably first saw the original 69-70 episodes in their earliest reruns, but definitely watched the New Movies during their first run in 1972. Evidently I either forgot all about the 3 seasons from 76-78, or didn't realize back then that they were new episodes since they aired together with other programs, or was watching something else during those timeslots and missed them. At any rate I always misremembered the Scrappy-Doo era as having started just shortly after the 72 season, and have just recently been pleasantly surprised to find out there were 40 other 'traditional' episodes in between.
I have watched several of the feature-length animated movies over the past 7-8 years with my 8 year-old son, which kinda started getting me back into it, and then more recently the various TV episodes with my 3 year-old nephew. When I started checking out the DVD sets, I realized there were all those original 'forgotten' episodes above.
Which brings me to my question. I'll eventually pick them all up probably, but to start I was wondering what everyone's preference here was between the Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt DVD set and the Where Are You? Season 3 set? Which set you like better and why?
Like I said I'll eventually watch each, I'm just trying to decide where to start. I tend to go more for the mystery/creepiness aspect of the show rather than the humor, so maybe I should ask which set you think is the spookiest?
By the way, does anyone know if there's ever been any discussion of releasing the 8 episodes from the 77-78 season? I'd hoped they might be included with the upcoming Laff-a-Lympics set since they premiered together, but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. (Funny, I remember watching the Laff-a-Lympics but not the Scooby episodes?)
Thanks!
Mark

Hello!
I don't have Scooby/Dynomutt yet, so someone could probably answer this better than I can. But I think the epiosdes in the Season 3 set and the Scooby episodes in the Dynomutt set are both from the Scooby Doo Show. Personally I'd go with Season 3 since those episodes aired first and are probably closest to the original series. I'd wish WB had included those remaining 8 episodes, it'd be nice to have them along with the remaining episodes from the New Scooby Doo Movies.

Personally I'd go with Season 3 since those episodes aired first and are probably closest to the original series. Thanks for the reply. I've started watching the Season 3 set already. One ep actually and not one I'd seen previously. All those DVD titles and the Scooby-Doo Show confused me at first. Then I found a couple reviews at Amazon that really cleared a lot up for me. I thought I'd post it below as it's been a great reference while I've been getting back into the show. (Scooby/Dynomutt DVD Set) The 1976-1977 Saturday morning TV season saw the premiere of "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour." These were the first new Scooby-Doo episodes produced in 3 years (since the 1973 season of "The New Scooby-Doo Movies"). In total, 16 episodes of Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt were produced for this season. After 13 airings of "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour", the show was expanded to 90 minutes and renamed "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Show", adding repeats of the original "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" episodes for the extra half-hour. This was the only season of "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour/Show", so this DVD is complete with all 16 episodes that aired under that title. (Not Yet Released) The 1977-1978 Saturday morning TV season saw the premiere of "Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-Lympics", a 2-hour show composed of the half-hour debut of the "Laff-a-Lympics", the half-hour debut of "Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels", plus a half-hour each of Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt. The half-hour of Scooby-Doo aired repeats from "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour/Show", PLUS 8 new episodes. Similarly, the half-hour of Dynomutt aired repeats PLUS 4 new episodes as well. (Scooby Doo Where Are You Season 3 DVD Set) The 1978-1979 Saturday morning TV season gets more confusing. 16 more new Scooby-Doo episodes were produced for this season. The first 9 of these new episodes were first aired under the half-hour "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" title, complete with the original show's 1969 opening credits, just with new episodes. The remaining 7 new episodes (plus repeats of all 16) aired as part of the renamed "Scooby's All-Stars", a 90-minute show composed of new and repeat half-hour episodes of the "Laff-a-Lympics", half-hour episodes of "Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels", and new and repeat half-hour episodes of Scooby-Doo. It's these 16 new episodes of Scooby-Doo that some folks refer to as the "3rd season". (Since it used the "Scooby-Doo Where Are You!" title, even though other Scooby seasons aired in between under different titles.) Now to add even more confusion, all Scooby-Doo episodes from these past three seasons, 40 episodes in total (16 + 8 + 16), were re-packaged together as "The Scooby-Doo Show" for syndication reruns starting in 1980. So most folks only know these episodes from the syndication repeats airing on cable networks like Cartoon Network or Boomerang, and not from their original airings. They were never called "The Scooby-Doo Show" during any of the original ABC Saturday morning airings. (Their original opening and closing credits were all replaced with brand new "The Scooby-Doo Show" credits as well, adding some confusion, especially since those credits are used in the DVD sets as well.) Oh I do too. I mean, it's only 8 episodes. You'd think they could've been tacked onto one of the other 2 sets. Eventually I hope. Thanks again! Mark

Is there anyone who has the Scooby/Dynomutt set that could add their thoughts?
Thanks.

I actually like the SD/Dynomutt set, mainly because of the special features. I have all the series that have been released to date, but I want to own them all.

I like the "Season 3" set better because there are only Scooby-Doo episodes on that. With the "Scooby-Doo! Dynomutt" DVD, there are also Dynomutt Dog Wonder episodes.

I looked up what the special features were online. This from Amazon.com: "Eerie Mystery Of Scooby-Doo And Dynomutt's History" featurette - the history of both dog wonders "In Their Own Words" featurette - the original voice actors share memories from their days on the shows "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Files" - unseen treasures from the Hanna-Barbera vault including original character sketches

I ordered some copy's of the scooby doo show including season 2 from an eBay auction a while back its fantastic to have every episode. Then I went onto sell.com and one of the sellers named video futures had the new scooby doo movies with the missing episodes included.

Preferred Dynomutt one as I loved the Mr Hyde episode as Blue Falcon had me in stitches.
