How about Sherlock Holmes? They sort of did that in "Night Ghoul of Wonderworld."

There are so many stars who should have been on this incarnation! Most of the live action guest stars were contracted to CBS (the network Scooby was attached to at the time) and/or were on TV shows airing on that network. If we go based on the time period of 1972-1974, here's who I wished had appeared:
The Monkees - Yes, Davy appeared, but by then he was a solo act. The show was in syndication at the time and it wouldn't necessarily have been too out of place.
The Impossibles - Even though the show was not in production, it was syndicated (and would turn up again just a few years later in the "HB World of Super Adventure" package). I can't help but think it would have been a better fit than The Three Stooges or Laurel & Hardy (even though this young viewer was aware of who those movie stars were).
Carol Burnett - She was riding high with her variety show at that time, and she would have been a kick of a guest mystery solver! Like Jonathan Winters, I can see her playing off some of her own characters! How she was passed over back when the show was first running I'll never know!
Andy Griffith - Don Knotts showed up twice - once as a spoof of his Deputy Barney Fife character (working in the town of "Juneberry"). I would have loved to have seen them animated together for that one.
Inch-High Private Eye - If the Globetrotters, Speed Buggy and Jeannie could appear, he could have made for some not so small laughs.
Tony Randall & Jack Klugman as The Odd Couple (or just as themselves) - They made a great team and it would have been fun to see them animated (yea, I do remember "The Oddballs" but that was entirely different!).
Jackie Gleason - Having him on a mystery could have sent one of the gang to the moon!
Bob Newhart - just because!
Elizabeth Montgomery - She voiced her Samantha character for "The Flintstones", so why not have her get the gang into a bunch of witchy hijinks? Perhaps Dick York and Agnes Moorehead could have done cameos.
Lucille Ball - So many stars were appearing on her shows ("Here's Lucy") and it could have been interesting to have had her along.
Dick Clark - Yeah, American Bandstand was on ABC but it still would have been fun having him on a music related mystery.
Flip Wilson - Imagine if he (and perhaps Geraldine) came along for some laughs?
Now for the piece de resistance:
Elvis. Nothing more needs to be said.
If the show were rebooted and run today (the closest would be the DTVs) I'd love to see a reunion of the surviving guest stars from the earlier show (Tim Conway, Sandy Duncan, Dick Van Dyke, and John Astin) and put them in a mystery around an old age home they bought together and were fixing up for elderly ex- Hollywood retirees.

Welcome to the forum magicdog! Those would all be really cool, I'd especially like Elizabeth Montgomery to appear.

I've already posted something like this in another thread about Scooby Doo crossover ideas, but here goes. Most of these are just fan fiction ideas i've come up with(and that I will write someday), while some are ones that I definitely think could have been done had the series included more episodes, or if the New Scooby Doo movies had gone on into 1974 or 1975. First, Magnum P.I.; I know when that series was on, Scooby Doo was on ABC. However, for my fan fiction idea i'm setting the story in the mid 1980s, or during the time when Scooby was on ABC... which means only Daphne, Shaggy, Scooby and yes Scrappy are around for the mystery; should be interesting since the gang has been to Hawaii multiple times over the years, especially trying to figure out an actual mystery that Magnum and Mystery Inc. would both investigating. The next idea I had was the singer/songwriter Paul Williams. This one definitely could have been done in 1972 or 1973, as he was writing hit songs and was singing a bit around that time; this idea came from an episode of the 1970s Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries where the characters investigated a castle in Transylvania that was apparently home to Dracula once upon a time. Considering Paul Williams guested in that episode, and that it had a very spooky vibe to it, I kind of would like to see Paul Williams hanging out with Scooby and the gang. I think a cool plot would be Shaggy and Scooby win some contest to meet him, maybe in New York, and it turns out where Paul is performing is haunted by a phantom or ghost or something similar; i'm thinking this will be along the lines of the Jerry Reed episode of the actual series as well. Next is kind of an offbeat idea as far as guest stars, but here goes. In the early 1970s(including 1972/1973 when Scooby was still on CBS with new episodes), there were a number of game shows on the network's daytime schedule, and I think an interesting guest star would have been Bert Convy, or Wink Martindale, or Jack Barry or Gene Rayburn or Bob Barker, all who hosted game shows on CBS at the time. Ideally I was thinking Bert Convy would have been the guest star for such an episode, but you could use any of the hosts mentioned above. I think Bob Barker would have been interesting as he(not sure about 1972 or 73 though) was and still is an animal rights activist and an animal lover; I also think he would have had a lot of fun talking to Scooby Doo, as Bob probably has never seen a talking dog before Another good idea for a guest star back then would have been any of CBS's sportscasters or broadcasters. Admittedly this idea came about because, well I like sports, and I like Scooby Doo, so it seemed to be a fun way of combining the two; for this idea there really are a lot of choices that could be included here, like Pat Summerall or Jack Buck, really anybody would have worked for this idea who worked for CBS Sports back then. Lastly, another guest star I would have liked to see is Sabrina The Teenage Witch and the Archie characters. This of course would have been impossible in the 70s as the characters were Filmation property and Scooby was well, Hanna Barbera; now of course it's much easier with fan fiction. This one as far as a plot is easy. There are strange things happening in Archie and the gang's hometown, which is also Sabrina's hometown; eventually the gang talks to Sabrina, but there's a bit of a fun catch. Shaggy and Scooby discover somehow(accidentally of course) Sabrina's powers and the fact that's she's a teenage witch; Sabrina sees this and panics... but there's yet another plot twist. Shaggy and Scooby talk to Sabrina and her cat Salem, and as it turns out Shaggy doesn't mind or care at all that Sabrina's a witch, partly because Shaggy and Scooby are OK with Sabrina and become good friends with her. Shaggy at one point tells Sabrina that he knows a few real supernatural beings, and that some of them are really nice, which surprises Sabrina a bit; eventually the two talk a bit more, and lo and behold something surprising happens: Shaggy not only gets to be good friends with Sabrina, but he also begins to find Sabrina beautiful, and that leads to Shaggy and Sabrina falling in love with one another. However, Sabrina tells Shaggy and Scooby that no one can know about her secret and that no one can find out she's a witch... not even Fred, Daphne and Velma. So, Shaggy and Scooby agree to keep her secret; I was thinking of a follow up to this story as well where Shaggy and Scooby meet up with Sabrina and Salem again many years later. Now however, it's after Shaggy finds out his grandparents are a warlock and witch... and that Shaggy is of warlock lineage himself, mainly that he is a warlock. It seems a bit far out there, but I was thinking this would be alternate universe stuff, and that Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy each have ancestors or relatives that are warlocks or witches... and that each of them is line to be a warlock or a witch(the former in Shaggy and Fred's case, while the latter is in Daphne and Velma's cases). I was thinking that universe would feature a meeting with Vincent Van Ghoul, and the gang having to use their newfound magic powers to stop a villain or group of villains. In any case, that's all the ideas I have for now. But I can share more at a later date or time, something like that

Sabrina The Teenage Witch is one of my favorite shows! I also really love the Filmation Archie/Sabrina shows, so an episode with them as guest-stars would have been amazing! I'd still really like to see an episode that brings back Josie And The Pussycats or The Archie's/Sabrina, since they are from the same comics. Someone they should've used and still could is Betty White! She would have been amazing! I also like the idea of Scooby meeting Lucille Ball...so many missed opportunities. They should've stuck to guest stars having one episode each, allowing for more to meet Scooby.

Betty White is a good choice - although she'd work out better today. She is so beloved and appreciated now. Back in the early 70s she was still best known as "Sue Ann Nivens" on The Mary Tyler Moore Show - an unsympathetic character.
I think Angela Landsbury would have worked well - then or now. Obviously she's best known for her mystery solving antics on "Murder She Wrote", but she was still quite well known in the 70s for her films like, "Bedknobs & Broomsticks" (1971) "Gaslight" (1944) and "The Manchurian Candidate" (1962); not to mention her long stage career.
Debbie Reynolds would have been a kick! She had done "Charlotte's Web" around the time (released in 1973) and I think it could have worked.
Bob Hope (and perhaps Bing Crosby) might have been a hoot too, although due to Hope's long time association with NBC would have prevented it.

I know technically Sabrina and Shaggy and Scooby met(at least in the live action Sabrina series), but in my mind(and in the fan fiction idea I shared) the Sabrina that Shaggy and Scooby would meet is sort of a mixture of the Filmation Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and the live action Sabrina, as well as a tiny bit of the character from the more modern animated series(Sabrina The Animated Series, Sabrina's Secret Life, Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch, etc.). To me, a fan fiction with a Sabrina that has traits from her various incarnations over the years meeting Shaggy and Scooby would be pretty cool.

The Filmation era Sabrina The Teenage Witch was a pretty good show, as i've been checking it out every so often on Hulu; actually(as I mentioned in another post in this thread) that I had an idea for a fan fiction story where Scooby and the gang met Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Ideally(again, this is my feelings and thought on the subject), I was thinking for my story that Sabrina would have traits from her various incarnations over the years(the Filmation animated series, the live action Melissa Joan Hart series, the more modern animated series, etc.); frankly I think a story with a Sabrina like the one i'm envisioning could be pretty good.

Abbott & Costello could have been a cool idea, considering they had The Three Stooges & Laurel & Hardy on the show (mind you not played by their own actors, but that's aside the point).
