I think one problem Curse Of The Lake Monster had was that it covered too much of the same ground and themes that the then-current SD:MI episodes and Camp Scare had just covered a few months before. I don't know if the live action film-makers weren't keeping up with what the animated folks were doing or what, but when I first saw CotLM it was like I had just watched it all before. I often wonder that if CotLM had come out first, would it have done better?
If they do another live action, I hope they coordinate better with the rest of the current franchise.

I don't know that COTLM did well enough for them to make a 3rd movie (with the same actors.) I could see that it could have done better if it came out first. Of course, that could have also changed how we view SDMI or changed the series all together.

I didn't mind Kate Melton as Daphne. I liked her better than Sarah Michelle Gellar. I didn't like Freddie Prince Jr. as Fred either. I also didn't like Robbie Amell as Fred. That may be because I don't really like his actual personality. I find him to be high on himself (I get that impression from his twitter posts) and so that impression carried over to the movie and I just didn't like him. What's your reason for not liking Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred then? Did you just not like how those two characters were in those two movies?

Thanks for your post freddaphne29758....The interview was really interesting! I agree that Nick Palatas was a good Shaggy for those movies. He had the look of shaggy, and the voice, though there were times it kind of seemed forced. I can't imagine doing Shaggy's voice is easy though. I didn't mind Hayley Kiyokyo as Velma, I just thought Linda Cardellini was awesome as Velma, so i was disappointed to see a new Velma. I also though Matthew Lillard was born to play Shaggy. He had the look and the voice and it seemed more natural to him. I am not a big fan of any of the live action movies. I do like some of the actors more than others though. I think the true story has come from the cartoon series and that the live action movies were the perception of the directors/writers/producers. If they happened to add in info from the cartoons, that was at their discretion. I agree. I honestly didn't know about Robbie's twitter posts but to me he was still a better Fred than Freddie Prince Jr.(maybe because to me Fred has a certain arrogance/jerkiness to him in the original cartoons like saying "Danger Prone Daphne", calling Shaggy a bunch of hams etc that the movie directors love to portray on screen) so yeah maybe knowing what Robbie is like on twitter affects how you view him on screen but IDK Honestly, because that's really a shame on how he doesn't show respect to people who don't act for a living and part of the reason I don't follow many actors except for Phil Morris. To me both the 2002/2004 and TV Movies had great Shaggy and Velma and Scooby which is a bonus because that shows how dedicated they are to the role. However it's weird that it feels like it's much harder to play Fred and Daphne apparently going by the first one. Kate Melton felt like Daphne personified to me in both looks(more so in Curse of the Lake Monster) and personality(again more so in Curse of the Lake Monster) than SMG did(I already said I felt that like Buffy in Daphne's Clothes and didn't look or feel like Daphne for most of her scenes) and Fred in the first 2 didn't feel like Fred except barely in looks and didn't help with the idea of Fred not being the brightest of light bulbs started by Pup named Scooby but he did do better in Monsters Unleashed admittedly. plus love how the Mystery Machine looks like a perfect combo of the 2002/2004 Live action and the original 60s Mystery Machine 1960 Mystery Machine: a 1963 Ford Econoline van www.imcdb.org/movies.php?titleMatch=1&title=scooby-doo&yearMatch=0&year=&movieType=-12002/Monsters Unleashed Mystery Machine: The one used in SD1 is a 1972 Bedford CF while the one in Scooby-doo 2 is a 1970 Chevy G-10 Van www.imcdb.org/movie_267913-Scooby-Doo.htmlwww.imcdb.org/movie_331632-Scooby-Doo-2--Monsters-Unleashed.htmlMystery Begins/Curse of the Lake Monster Mystery Machine/REVELL 1977 CHEVY VAN MODEL robbieamellfan.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=124&pid=5338#top_display_mediawww.imcdb.org/movie_1258157-Scooby-Doo!-The-Mystery-Begins.html www.imcdb.org/movie_1618435-Scooby-Doo!-Curse-of-the-Lake-Monster.html : to ahkyahnan's post if the removed some aspects like a few of the musical numbers and maybe released it earlier then it might have been better received but if they do make a third one I hope they can look at all the mistakes made in the previous four live action movies(maybe a monster based on an old Ohio legend since that's is where most of the adventures take place.) as well as try to tie it up better with the Scooby franchise(maybe take place after a failed spring dance with the Creeper or something) and it could make a good Scooby movie but I ultimately I have to agree with ScoobyAddict the true story comes from the cartoon(mainly Where Are You) and every other cartoon and movie are just different directors/writers/producer's spin on it. But I would have liked it if they tied SDMI and the TV Movies in better like make the TV Movies prequel and SDMI Leading from it or try something similar with the next TV series. By the way what do people think of making a favorite Mystery Machine thread(I'm not talking about the classic mystery machine I'm saying like if you had to choose a Mystery Machine besides the classic like the one in the 13 ghosts of Scooby-Doo or the 1990/2000 DVDS such as Zombie Island or the live action movies what would your Mystery Machine of Choice be?)

You can make a favorite mystery machine thread if you want and maybe include a poll.
Volkswagen might not have let the various film production crews use an actual VW van for the films...they get kinda weird and overprotective when it comes to allowing their properties to be used nowadays. They didn't allow Bumblebee in the Transformers film be a VW bug, so that's why he's now a camero.

But yeah to me it's kind of unfair that the people think the TV Movie cast are a horrible portrayal of the Mystery Inc gang compared to the the 2002/2004 movies since the cast are mostly teenagers- to people in their early 20s who TV were shows on Nickelodeon , Disney and Cartoon Network compared to the first 2 movie cast who have a much more distinguished movie/TV career and most of the reasoning I heard is because of things like Fred is blonde and Velma is Asian which shouldn't be that important to me since they look and acted like the iconic cartoon Mystery Inc. gang in many ways. I don't think the Mystery Begins/Lake Monster actors did a very good job or looked like their characters. But again, part of that is because I don't see how there can be 2 different live-action versions of the gang. To me, the live-action appearances of the characters were already revealed in the first two. I mean I could understand if they were on a different continuity, but..

They didn't allow Bumblebee in the Transformers film be a VW bug, so that's why he's now a camero. At least they shown the VW Bug in the scene where Sam buys the car(I came in during the Armada and Beast Wars but the live action as well as Transformers Animated and Prime renewed my interest in Transformers as well as introduced me to characters I didn't know about before and I'm trying to catch the original G1 series from the beginning on Hub so I guess I'm proof that Bayformers are good for Transformers fans ;D) to LaeScoobyFan to me for the first 2 movies except for Shaggy, Scooby and kind of Velma felt like a parody of the Scooby-Doo gang(Velma making the plans while Fred takes the credit, Fred is a buffoon to put it nicely, Daphne is basically Buffy in Daphne clothes only acting like like Pup named Scooby-Doo Daphne(not a good thing imo) and What's New Daphne in a few scenes, etc) as well as what the Scooby-Doo gang might be like as adults in the 21st century while the TV Movie gang are what the Where Are You teenagers would probably be like in the 21st century/real life. like a poster said before if Mystery Begins/Curse of the Lake Monster are prequel of the first 2 movie it's not a new concept that they are different actors trying to make something in the same continuity (Superman Returns is intended to be sequel of the first 2 Christopher Reeve Superman movies only with an all new cast, 1989 Batman-Batman and Robin are a continuation of each other even though they got 3 different Batman but a few of the actors are the same characters(Robin, Alfred and Commissioner Gordon) and references(Batman Returns alludes to Vicky finding out Bruce becomes Batman, Batman Forever talks about Catwoman and shows Jack Napier/Joker, etc), plus a whole lot of other movies did something similar. But part of it does feels like a reboot and part of it feels like a prequel of the first movies.

Shaggy and Scooby work together really well in Mystery Begins. It actually follows the Scooby storyline more than some give it credit for. Daphne being the van's owner, Scooby being adopted, Coolsville, a lead-in to the first episode at the end, eyes glowing in the dark, classic sound effects... I think it was done well.

I Really liked both movies since it told a familiar story in a new and different way and i also feel like the respective actors for the TV Movies played them really well especially for the continuity i have in mind for the franchise which i will go into in the continuity thread yes i have a minor issue is that fred isn't blond but really who cares Robbie Amell played the roll perfectly i simply doesnt matter all in all i really like them compared to the original movies which i felt were more of a parody of the franchise than the TV movies

Misrepresentation of characters, and the added confusion of the lore makes these two pretty awful. At least the CG is better? No, it doesn't make up for it.

I still say that kiss between Shaggy and Velma had chemistry. Kisses don't last that long without there being chemistry. Although given the hard time they gave Fred and Daphne for the same thing, I can see why they wouldn't want to admit it in front of them.
