What did you think of these two live-action movies?

Well, I am an EXTREME fan of Scooby-Doo and I am not a fan of "The Mystery Begins" or "Curse of the Lake Monster" at all. It just doesn't add up to me. I tried to be accepting at first, but I can't. There are way too many contradictions. They tried to make a movie to reveal how the gang got together, what their very first case was, where Scooby Snacks came from, and how they got the Mystery Machine, when these things were already revealed. Let me remind you of "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo". It just makes more sense that the gang would have been together since they were very young.

If it would have been seperate, Mystery Begins would have been loved it and Lake Monster would have been OK. But since they aren't I went in between: really liked it.

Yes, I hated Lake Monster more, so I guess we both think it was worse. These movies just didn't seem like Scooby to me. I could go on and on about it.

I wasn't too fond of these movies. As I have said before, I am not a big fan of live action Scooby, though Matthew Lillard was born to play Shaggy and Linda Cardellini was born to play Velma! Of all the live action movies, these 2 were my least favorite. I don't really like Robbie Amell and didn't like Hayley Kiokyo as Velma. I think Linda Cardellini spoiled me and there can never be a live action Velma like her.

I am a fan of the first two live-action movies, I thought all of the actors and actresses in those were great. And I loved the first two movies, but these, these make me really sad and mad. Honestly, I don't understand how there can be two different live-action versions of Scooby. They look different! I didn't think any of the ameteurs in these two did well at all. How can you like it? Velma looked like she was Japanese. Daphne looked like she was either fat or pregnant. And Fred had dark hair. Because of my deep hatred for these two movies, I have excessively thought about it, all of the contradictions and such, and there are many. I mean, it just doesn't make sense. There are too many contradiction for me to believe anything that happened in these movies was true and I refuse to accept them.

i don;t like live action versions of cartoon characters anyway. live action films can't capture the 'essence ' that a cartoon can. neither of these films rank high on my scooby films list, in fact they barely count as 'scooby' at all too me

These two don't count as Scooby to me. Because of the contradictions, I came to a conclusion that something wasn't right, that either A Pup happened or these two happened. And it makes the most sense to me that A Pup Named Scooby-Doo is the true story. In addition to A Pup, there are a number of flashbacks showing the gang as young kids. And you know one ridiculous thing.. They used the town of Coolsville in the Mystery Begins movie, when Coolsville was first used in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo!! Now that is very messed up!! Everything that they tried to reveal or explain in the Mystery Begins was already revealed, or already had an explanation for. So, these two films don't rank on my Scooby anything list at all, because I don't believe in them or anything that occurred in them as being true.

Hey I'm new to this forum. I am a big fan of the mystery begins/curse of the lake monster(#1 of favorite Scooby movies along with mystery inc., 1st 2 live action movies, what's new Scooby-Doo, and the classic cartoons). Personally I veiw a pup named scooby-doo no different from Muppet kids, baby looney goons, etc:just a fad and not in real continuity whereas Mystery Begins is a much more believable origin for me(with people like Sarah Michelle Gellar already saying Mystery Machine was Daphne/Daphne's parents, Fred being kind of a jerk in the original cartoons and first two movies, Coolsville,Ohio being a real place, ending of mystery begins is basically where the pilot begins with Black Knight Ghost as Mystery Inc's first offical mystery together,I never like Scooby Snack being a famous company when Scooby is just a puppy, jokes about Fred dying his hair. blonde, etc, ending of mystery begins being a modern version of the original cartoons, etc.) And Mystery Begins feel like it lead to the first two live action movie or even the original cartoons and it feel more like a Scooby-Doo cartoon and a behind the scenes look at the the gang while at times the first 2 movies felt like a parody/behind the scenes look at the gang.
Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Hi freddaphne29758! Welcome to the board!
I'm sure you have read my posts above. These are the flashbacks I was talking about, and this is why I don't think the Mystery Begins/Lake Monster movies fit very well as far as continuity with everything else Scooby. Here are some contradictions, and reasons why I don't believe Mystery Begins/Lake Monster movies are true:
Here is a flashback with just Shaggy and Scooby: -In “The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries” episode “Happy Birthday, Scooby Doo” Scooby is on a TV show called “Here is Your Life, Scooby-Doo” to celebrate his birthday. When it’s time to look back at Scooby’s childhood, they do. Shaggy says “That’s right Scooby. Think back to the good old days, way back when we were kids.” Then a video comes up on a monitor. It shows Shaggy and Scooby together as babies and shows the first babysitter they ever had. The babysitter looks to be a monster. After the video Shaggy says “Let’s face it Scoob, we had a monstrous childhood.”.
-This isn't really a flashback, but in “The New Scooby-Doo Movies” episode “The Loch Ness Mess” the gang visits Shaggy’s Uncle Nat. In the episode, Shaggy and Scooby take “a nice walk around the house” after Shaggy thinks it will calm Scooby’s nerves. Anyway, in one room, where there are old pictures and things, Shaggy finds an old family album. There is a picture of Shaggy from when he was 3 years old and another picture of Scooby showing him at 3 months old. Before Shaggy found the picture of Scooby, he said to Scooby: “There may be a picture of you in here.”. Even though they are not in the same picture, this suggests Scooby has been with the family , since there is a picture of him in an "old family album".
Also, there have been so many family members of Scooby's shown. Some of them are owned by Shaggy's family members. That would also suggest Scooby and Shaggy always have been together.
Here are some flashbacks with the whole gang: -In the "What's New Scooby-Doo?" episode "A Scooby-Doo Valentine", Shaggy and Scooby run into their ex-girlfriends, Rachel and Roxanne at Lovers' Lane. A flashback of a young Shaggy and Scooby is shown revealing how they broke up. Shaggy may be in his early teenage years. In the flashback, Shaggy says to Rachel "See Scoob and I are going on the road and the road's no place for a long distance relationship. I hope we can still be friends." Then Rachel yells: "Get out! We never want to see you again!".
-In one of the "Scooby Doo Behind the Scences" clips, it is revealed how the gang started off. They didn't have the Mystery Machine then, so, according to Daphne, they gave their parents gas money to drive them around. A flashback of their first car pool is shown with the gang looking to be in their preteen years.
-In “What’s New Scooby-Doo?” episode “A Terrifying Round With A Menacing Metallic Clown” after Velma gets scared of a clown, a flashback is shown telling why she has a fear of clowns. The flashback shows all five members of the gang together at Velma’s fifth birthday party. They look similar to how they looked in “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” in the flashback.
Mystery Machine contradictions: -In addition to the gang coming together for the first time, the "Mystery Begins" movie also attempts to explain how they got the Mystery Machine. In this movie, the Mystery Machine use to be an old tool van from Daphne’s garage. The problem is, the van’s past was already revealed in the "What’s New Scooby-Doo?" episode "It’s Mean, It’s Green, It’s the Mystery Machine". In this episode it is revealed that the Mystery Machine use to belong to a band called "The Mystery Kids". Technically, it was owned by their keyboard player, Flash Flannigan. It is also revealed that Flash was the one who painted the van, and that he painted it to remind him of the flowers in his garden. Velma thought the flower pattern was Fred’s idea. Fred said "No, I always wanted to paint it red."
-Another Mystery Machine contradiction is in one of the "Scooby Doo Behind the Scenes" clips. This specific clip tells how the gang started off. In the clip it says Daphne’s dad gave them the money to start off. It says they "bought" the Mystery Machine and that Shaggy found it. These clips aired on Cartoon Network.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful or convince others to believe the way I believe. I'm just putting out the reasons why I feel the way I do. I respect other people's opinions, even if they are different from mine!

Thanks for taking the time to read. That's okay . I understand being a huge fan of superhero comics/movies which have various rebooted and continuity and a poster on various superhero boards I know how people have different favorite version of continuity. However I personally feel the the scooby-doo TV movies is trying to be more of a prequel of the first 2 live action movies(even though there was a flashback in monsters unleashed and it looked like it was the first live action movie was first time mystery inc encountered anything supernatural) and the first scooby-doo cartoons(primarily where are you) plus the fact it might have been made for the same people/age group they were making the Mystery inc cartoons for. (plus it being a low budget movie so it makes sense that Scooby looks more like the cartoon Scooby and didn't appear in whole movie whereas the live action Scooby movie was more like a real dog) and some of the movie made sense making it 21st century(clothing similar to the original cartoon clothes but more like something people my age(18) in 2010-2012 would wear, racially diverse in the form of Velma being Asian, etc) and it make sense to make a prequel with different actors because it's hard playing high school characters/teenagers with characters in their mid 30s to early 40s(assumptions of course) no matter how good they are. movie references in mystery begins/curse of the lake monster(I got more examples if you want me to post it or if you want to pm me): -Mystery begins Velma talking about her science project(same project from Monsters Unleashed) in the opening scene -At the end of Mystery Begins Velma talking about the Black Knight Ghost/Coolsville Museum being Mystery Inc's first official case in Monsters Unleashed/pilot episode villian (mystery/principle in mystery begins don't count since that's how they get together and became friends and they only solved in order to clear their names) -I guess shaggy having a couple of skateboards in his room in mystery begins is a reference to shaggy skateboarding in the first movie and how many teenagers skateboard now -Kate Daphne karate kicking a statue like Buffy Daphne (that's what I like to call Sarah Michelle Gellar's version of Daphne not trying to insult her) -like I said TV movie Mystery Incorporated looks like a mix of the first 2 live action movie clothes and classic cartoon clothes only they look like something today's teens would wear(especially pointed out in one of the first teaser trailers where Robbie Amell's Fred looks at his white sweater/Blue shirt/orange ascot combot and says "too old School" and gets a blue High School Letterman jacket instead and Daphne choosing a purple dress saying perfect) -Fred being a brunette similar to how there was supposed to be a deleted scene with Fred dying his hair blond(joke since Fred's eyebrows in the cartoon and the previous live action movies were black and his hair is blonde and producers and Robbie thought Robbie didn't look good in a blonde wig or dying his hair but got a scene where he has the original cartoon look and a behind the scenes in Mystery Begins had Robbie wearing a blond Fred wig) -in all four live action movies Fred and to an extent Velma are big skeptics when it comes to the fact that ghosts and monsters are real/might exist -Scooby's fart jokes -Fred and Daphne romantic moments -Robbie Amell Fred acting basically acting like Fred in first 2 live action movies and Fred from the original Where are you cartoon and to an extent the what's new cartoon series and early 2000 dvd cartoons (he was seen in a lot of cartoons as being a huge sports fans and lifting weights around 220 tons and being the coolest guy in Coolsville high so being a football player is entirely believable) -Music in TV movies similar to original movies(help when it's the same guy) -Scooby tackling and licking shaggy constantly -Sarah Michelle Gellar saying Daphne's dad bought the Mystery Machine in the first movie's cast commentary -Mystery machine being a mix of the first 2 live action movies/2000 Direct to video movies(Zombie Island, Alien Invaders, etc) and classic 1960s mystery machine -The whole hands on top of each other moment
