The original Where Are You! theme was written by David Raleigh and Ben Mook. And when it first ran on CBS in 1969, it wasn't used on the show until the third episode (Hassle In The Castle). The first two eps (What A Night For A Knight, A Clue For Scooby Doo) used the same graphics, but the background music was merely the same used later during Fred's toy train trap in Mystery Mask Mix-Up with Shaggy calling out "Scooby Doo, Where Are You!" when the title was on the screen. If you have SAP on your TV, activate it next time the show is on and you'll hear it on some of the episodes (with Shaggy's voice in Spanish).
Hoyt Curtin, who did the New Scooby Doo Movies theme, said he never did like the original WAY theme.

Yeah it is. It's always interesting to find out how the eps originally aired vs. how repeats & DVD versions air now.

Unfortunately, it seems nowadays that "What's New Scooby-Doo" is becoming Scooby's main theme now. Even when they had the Scooby-Doo balloon up at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade from 2005 to 2007, they played that theme! Wouldn't it have made more sense to use the classic "Where Are You?" theme?

Where Are You, at least in my eyes, is the main theme song for Scooby-Doo!

Yeah, but even the new ones aren't as good as the original. Until SD:MI. ;D

I have no beef with the Mystery Incorporated theme. It's just not as memorable as the one that started it all. (Heck, Velma even sings it in Legend Of The Vampire.)

I think it's a pretty cool tune, especially if you listen to it through headphones to hear all the neat sounds and melodies in the background.
I know I always find myself humming it after watching an episode of SD:MI.
