The "Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10" movies are coming to Blu-Ray February 27th via Warner Archive. This includes Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf and Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers. Scooby Goes Hollywood will also be included as a bonus feature on the Reluctant Werewolf release.

Well, this is certainly a welcome surprise! All the Hanna-Barbera Scooby TV movies/specials are here! It would seem that WB is finally releasing their grip and letting WAC handle Scooby Blu ray releases! Hopefully this means that the rest of the Mook era isn't too far behind! It does seem strange that "Scooby Goes Hollywood" is relegated to a special feature instead of getting its own release though. Just in time for the Scooby's 55th birthday!

This is awesome news!! If this leads to WAC releasing more Scooby titles, I would like to see some of the more modern films that haven't gotten a Blu-ray release. Maybe do two box sets: One with the Mook films, Pirates Ahoy, Chill Out, Goblin King, and Abracadabra-Doo. And a second with Moon Monster Madness through present.

Yes, I'm going to get this as soon as possible to send the message. We will definitely pay for Blu-ray releases!

Hope the upscale of Reluctant Werewolf is competent. Not one much can do with that title.

Hope the upscale of Reluctant Werewolf is competent. Not one much can do with that title. It'll definitely be interesting! Potentially the best we've ever seen it. I'm really hoping they figured something out. AI upscaling even suffers trying to upscale it.

"George Feltenstein confirmed that there are no existing film elements for Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf or for Yogi and the Invasion of the Space Bears. These two only exist on video tape. He said that they have done some sort of up-res work on them, but it is not ideal. The fact that these two do not look great is the reason why they decided to add the bonus features to these two discs."
According to another forum. In short, the bad news is (like we suspected) Hanna-Barbera's digipaint films don't necessarily have any film master copies to even pull from. Their highest resolution in existence would then be 480i (standard quality SD) at best. The good news is that they're taking a fresh scan of the best quality they have, attempting to touch it up, and are including Goes Hollywood as well, which is likely to be in new-to-disc HD.
At the end of the day, they're doing all they can to give us the best of what they've got; it's likely to look better than we've ever seen it before and we get a free movie out of it. The fact that Warner Archive is even working with digipaint films is very encouraging in terms of a TNSDMysteries disc release someday.

Man, I can hardly wait! I would love to hear your thoughts on the release once you get it Ark! As you'll be getting it before I will, being in Australia and all! I'm most curious to see if all of their hard work payed off on The Reluctant Werewolf. Also, apparently Alien Invaders has a HD scan now! Its on the steaming service Stan here in Australia and apparently on iTunes/Apple TV, but when I looked on iTunes/Apple TV it still had the old SD version, so I don't know what's going on there.

For sure! I've been holding off on watching those Scooby movies so I can binge all four when this arrives. The colors in particular should be more accurate to the original releases than anything else widely available right now. On the topic of Alien Invaders, a lot of people think the next Blu-ray set will be the Mook trilogy. Movies Anywhere doesn't show Alien Invaders as HD here yet (and it has all the others in HD) so they don't quite seem to be ready but Alien Invaders should look beautiful. The DVD version in particular always felt pixelated to me, even way back when that didn't bother me so much. It and Reluctant Werewolf always seemed like the worst-mastered Scooby DVDs of that time period, so I'm definitely excited. Alien Invaders actually has a master copy as far as we know, too, so that's very encouraging.
On a side tangent, where does this art come from on the top of that page?

So, the HD treatment of Arabian Nights may be indicative of what we can expect of Reluctant Werewolf. I had no idea it used digipaint too! It's a bit rough around the edges still due to the limitations of the medium but appears to be cleaner, sharper, less blurry, no ghosting, etc.

I just looked at the preview for the HD Arabian Nights via Apple. It's not perfect as you say, but it sure is better than what we've gotten before! It looks like that Alien Invaders artwork was originally from the back cover artwork of the original VHS & DVD releases. Just in higher quality to use as a menu background.

Wow! It IS a tiny image on the VHS, I just confirmed that. Thanks.
And yes, I'm excited to see this finished product. And what it could mean for future releases of unreleased material.
