Alright, I just watched the new trailer for the Seth Rogan TMNT movie, and oh my god it looks so incredible!!!! Just wanted to post that because if WBD ever sells off Scooby, I'd love to see what Nickelodeon might do with the property. I'd rather Scooby-Doo get bought by Disney, honestly. If Star Wars and Marvel are any indication, they'd approve new Scooby movies and shows like crazy, while also creating handfuls of spin-offs based around beloved supporting characters; and lord knows that with Scooby-Dum, the Hex Girls, Vincent Van Ghoul, and even Hot Dog Water, the Scooby franchise has plenty to pick from. Also, the animated shows have just as many Marvel references as they have DC crossovers TBH

Disney MIGHT be able to get Mystery Incorporated Season 3 right. I wouldn't trust them with much else. Put the Gravity Falls guy in charge.

I mean Nickelodeon already has the rights to the Smurfs which was originally Hanna Barbera so maybe they could end up buying Scooby-Doo and other Hanna Barbera content if WB doesn't want Scooby or goes bankrupt. The Smurfs was originally a Belgian comic strip. I know but was referring to the original show.

I literally just signed up for a boomerang subscription through prime video bc they took the scooby doo show off of HBO. I was so upset when I realized it ;-; . Given it’s usually the show that I turn on as background noise while going to bed. I’ve seen it so many times, it’s just comfort. But hey, I guess I get more scooby shoes and movies now haha

I got bored of it after like three years but it was great for literally years! It's a shame only Season 3 of TSDS is on Blu-ray, and Season 1 never got a physical release. If you don't mind a service like Vudu, watch the sales because random seasons of TSDS go on sale periodically. I think I picked up Season 1 (with Ebenezer's ghost, etc.) for around $11.

I hope they don't begin purging lots and lots of content now as tax write-offs. Or maybe it's in preparation for HBO Max being rebranded as "Max"? (With a name like that, they are also emphasizing having lots of content for kids and families, given that the "HBO" brand generally isn't associated with kids' content.) Incidentally, a new episode of "Looney Tunes Cartoons" was done in the style of the 1960s Looney Tunes shorts, and as part of it they even referenced the "Abstract" opening and closing sequences with the Warner Bros.- Seven Arts logo! I mention this because I've often compared the Warner Bros. Discovery merger to Warner Bros.- Seven Arts, especially with how things are going lately.

Now I got word that according to Prime, at the end of this month HBO Max will be removing most of its' pre-1990s animated content! This will probably include "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" and the 1979-83 "Scooby and Scrappy-Doo" stuff already on there. Sadly, a lot of the latter hasn't been released on DVD or Blu-Ray yet! (Same with the 1977 episodes of "The Scooby-Doo Show", a series that was purged from HBO Max at the end of December.) I mean... At least we still have the Boomerang catalogue? Even though they haven't updated The New Scooby-Doo Movies, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, and they're still missing like half of the movies. So not only are they scrapping TWO movies that the fandom would've actually enjoyed, they're removing already established series from their primary platform? This is RIDICULOUS. The main issue is that they can't afford to. WB currently has around 48 billion dollars of debt and even with something profitable, it costs them to pay royalties and such for every streamed episode. TubiTV (owned by Fox/Disney?) is an exciting development which our European CN friend has mentioned the possibility of. Essentially, we'd get to watch stuff like Velma season 2 for free, and Fox would pay CN for the streaming rights. Everybody would win. We already have an incredible amount of Scooby content there including: SDWAY Seasons 1&2, 13 Ghosts, Scrappy Show, & even TNSDMysteries. It's an interesting development which I'm watching closely. Even though I have purchased all those shows in other ways, TubiTV works very well and only plays one advertisement every five episodes or so. It's not bad at all. I'm sad to hear that Boomerang isn't doing well as it was really exciting when it first released. Warner seems to be killing it with their own decisions and it did get more expensive as time went on and nothing new was added. It's like they lost their way. Hopefully the Scooby franchise is strong enough that it will find a way to keep going. Warner is in a very bad spot right now and I believe it's going to get worse before it gets better. Hopefully this storm passes and they get somebody with vision back in-studio around the time that Zaslav is able to get the debt under at least perceivable control. If the numbers are right, he's already reduced the debt by two billion. Warner needs somebody like Ted Turner in there with a vision, combined with Zaslav's heartless budget cuts and things could start getting better.

Thanks for sharing this! I also think it may give insight into why they cancelled Mystery Pups. It seems like the corporate thinking behind the cancellation may have been that they wanted to see the reaction to the rebranded streaming service before they took any risks on making Max Original Programming. Or at least, that's what I took away from this quote: “But if we’re going to do even more, let’s first be guided by what we see once the product launches."

Zaslav is now advocating strongly for theatrical releases. I personally hope this means the studio is softening to the idea of more Scooby Blu-ray releases, too. The bad news is, a lot of the recent Scooby stuff is exactly what doesn't fit the model he's describing here. All the Boomerang App specials and such. It seems like direct to video could be more profitable than direct to streaming, especially if he sorta kills interesting streaming. I don't get why he's hyping up HBO Max then, though. Very odd man.
He's not wrong in some ways though, even voice actors are advocating for physical media again. It pays everyone better:

This is good news. TubiTV may pick up more Scooby content. Outsourcing it is mutually beneficial.

David Zaslav is like a Scooby villain! Hopefully, some day he’ll be unmasked for good. Yeah, I've joked that maybe David Zaslav is really an evil maniacal toon disguised as a human, ala Judge Doom in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" All the more reason he could be a great villain to my toon detective fox, Sam Valentino (who I kind of based off Eddie Valiant form that movie if he were a toon).
