I could easily see Shaggy and Daphne being married if Hanna-Barbera and Warner Brothers continued on with that format but I wouldn't see them having any kids. The reason why they brought back Daphne in the 1983-1984 and 1985 shows is because she was more popular then Fred and Velma and they wanted to bring back the most popular out of the three. I wonder how different the Scooby-Doo fandom would be if they decided to stay with the Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne and Scrappy format instead of going back to the original five. I wonder that too. I can see them having kids but only like 2 with 3 the most. Btw: I noticed a lot of people seem to bash this pairing and I don't see why either. Because it goes against the norm, against what's expected; some people just can't handle the shake up to their system. The geeky girl with the shaggy haired guy and the pretty girl with the popular guy.

The people who bash this paring probably wouldn't if they grew up with it instead of Fraphne. Shaphne and Fraphne seem to be the most two popular parings in the fandom. I don't see that many fans talking about Shelma or Frelma and the Shelma fans mostly seem to be Fraphne fans.

It's not completely against the norm though. Kim and Ron from Kim possible is the first example I thought of. Surely there is more.

There are a lot of shows that do Shaphne like couples. So we could say Shaphne would work for this generation.

Donna and Eric (the 70s show) Ross and Rachel (friends) Patty and Doug (Doug)
The give geeks a chance trope does happen. If I somehow manage to snag a boyfriend one day I'd go for the type too. I can't see why people are so against pairings that aren't mainstream. That's why in particular I ship them. They are my favorite characters and it's their positions that attract each other that I like. Their quirks make them match up well.

For the majority of Friends Ross and Rachel's relationship was a "will they or won't they"- they spent very little time together as an actual couple. Eric and Donna had a similar relationship through a small portion of 70's and the other portion of the show mainly focused on Jackie's relationships; Eric and Donna had very little screen time in comparison to other couples on the show. Now it's been a while since I watched both Kim Possible and Doug but I never remember Doug and Patti being official and Kim and Ron's relationship happened pretty late in KP. Like I started watching that show when it came out and had grown out of it by the time they became a couple. (All I remember was Josh Manky, or whoever it was she was always going gaga over.) I guess my point is that many people don't appreciate this sort of pairing and, a lot of times when it does happen, it's like the instances above. It's long and drawn out, it happens toward the end of the series or it gets overshadowed by couples that people want to see more of. Shame too; I would really love to see a 13 Ghosts esque vibe come back to Scooby-Doo. Nothing too overt but the understated, read-between-the-lines tone of the show was nice.

I enjoyed that too, I don't hate fraphne but when that is the focal point of the plot or subplot it's not supposed to happen. I don't care if becomes canon but the fact it happens it would be cool.

I also like Shaphne, I think Shaggy and Daphne are a lot more alike to one another than Fred and Daphne.

It's interesting. In TNSDMysteries, Daphne sort of acts annoyed that she has to hang out with Shaggy, but she chooses to? It's a very odd relationship if you really try to make sense of if.

That's what confuses me. Maybe not annoyed but like, detached? Let me watch a few and reply tomorrow

I dated a girl in middle school, mostly through high school, and we were engaged a couple of years out. She was a cheerleader, I was a "gothic" type kid. A lot of the attraction was the difference but it caused a lot of friction as well. In a cartoon you could get away with it because you could emphasis all the positive and not bring into the negatives of reality.

A lot of the attraction was the difference but it caused a lot of friction as well. In a cartoon you could get away with it because you could emphasis all the positive and not bring into the negatives of reality. To reiterate what Matt said, what works in the cartoon world will not necessarily work in the real world. I've been married for just over 20 years and yes there are a lot of opposites between I, she loves soap operas, I like watching car restoration shows, she likes watching shows like Jerry Springer and the UK equivalents, I want to throw rocks at the TV, I like progressive metal and jazz, she can't stand them so on and so forth. But these are superficial differences, if we were not comparable at a deep and fundamental level then would we still be together. What you see little in she shows is how they are when they are 'off duty', they obviously get on well enough for them to be going on holidays together but when they do outside that there is little to go on, it us up to us as the viewers to write that part which allows us to make the as compatible, or not, as we prefer.

The only reason why a bunch of fans pair Fraphne/Shelma is because they think it's cool to pair the pretty people together and the geek people together. Maybe it just depends on the paring's interest in the real world. In real life a Fraphne like couple would lead to a break up. Shelma like couples may depend. Shaphne like couples are usually best or close friends.
