they've already done the ghost of Holmes in the 70s. Yes but not the ghost of Moriarty. They could even team up with a descendant of Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler.

Yeah, the Mothman was first sighted back in the 50's I believe. It was recently featured on an episode of MonsterQuest, and was also the background subject for the movie The Mothman Prophecies that starred Richard Gere. Back in the late 90's I think. The Headless Drunk! Yep, that would be a new one. Mark Where I live we have the monster of Carbuncle Pond.

You can go through a DnD monster manual and find all kinds of ideas for new monsters. Scooby has just barely scratched the surface there.

I'd also like to see some folklore monster considered more ridiculous than scary. It could be used to distract people rather than to scare them away. Basically the culprit could be using some really stupid looking creature disguise to lead people on a wild goose chase so they'd be too busy to find evidence of his crime.
