Only if Shaggy is Little John! And the arrows have little plungers on the end! Oh, or maybe a fork!
And Fred is Lancelot, Velma is an alchemist (alchemists were the precursors to scientists - she'd have to say that), and Daphne is...a princess? A jester? Not sure.
Shaggy looks more like Robin Hood. Also the Arrows should be gimmicky ones Shaggy designed after being inspired by an encounter with Green Arrow. Velma should be dressed like Maid Marian.

Him and Hal appeared in an issue of Team-Up though I'm pretty sure Barney is just writing fanfiction by this point

But fanfic is okay, I guess. I've never read any.

Watched it the day it came out, so I figured I'd post my review. Not too bad. Of course it doesn't beat the original, that's a given. It doe sleave a sense of mystery and doesn't ruin the first one by providing a scientific explanation (except for Velma's stupid swamp gas theory but it doesn't count since it is implied that the events of the first movie were real by adding an assumingly real cat person). I enjoyed the Reluctant Werewolf Easter egg although I REALLY hope it's not a hint for an upcoming sequel. Great intro and flashbacks from the first movie even though they ignore the fact that they were adults then and instead claim they visited the island for a school project, for crying out loud. Music was okay. The intrumentals were on point with the feel of the movie (I'm pretty sure a sequence from Camp Scare was reused when Shaggy and Scooby were gobbling up the buffet food) but the chase song was just awful and completely out of context. However, by modern Scooby movie standards, it was pretty decent.

It doesn't shock me one bit that Return to Zombie Island was cut off at the knees, because this seems like a pattern from high up in WB, not the Scooby writers' room. Zombie Island is easily the most popular movie, with Mystery Inc. being the most popular series. The two blend fake monster mysteries with truly supernatural plots. But WB seems to prefer the 1969-1979 formula, simply out of nostalgia. And I guarantee that will bite them in the butt sooner or later, since there's a reason the franchise moved away from that format until 2005. Mystery Inc. is in no way more popular than Where Are You! Maybe if you ask 15 year old's, who have no idea what Scooby-Doo's legacy is. Even if they do want to bring back the 70s formula, it's failing horribly and they butcher every upcoming film (series) more and more. They are not capable of making a film to satisfy both kids and grown-ups. A saturday morning cartoon from 50 years ago, hand-drawn by two guys and written on a piece of paper has a better overall quality in every department, than what they are producing now with thousands of money thrown in technology, animators, writers, marketing and whatnot... I don't know if i like even 10 minutes from Return to Zombie Island... It is not scary, it is not funny, it is not entertaining, it is not smart.. The gang are once again portrayed almost as caricatures. God forbid they act like normal people.. The original shows worked, because the kids were normal, rational, thought provoking, who encountered strange, kooky and mysterious situations. The laughter came natural by the things they did, say or thought and not because they were dumbed down for laughs..

While i'm not as anti the current Scooby product there is one thing I agree with extremely. I'm not as much a fan of more modern writing to over embellish character traits. It's a charm of a lot of the HB/RS characters that they have some traits but they also seem less defined and able to get put into many different situations while still feeling true to themselves. As a result it makes them come off more human, less college writing professor's ideal human.
I feel like this writing style was something that was lost as the 90s studio debacle went on. I still enjoy a lot of the work done with the characters since, but I feel like they have drifted further from that charm as time went on. Some writers just don't like that style and vice versa. It would be nice to see that return, if by some insane miracle i'd end up on one of those projects that would be one of my only lobbying causes.
