On June 4, a complete series What's New, Scooby-Doo? DVD set will be released in stores according to Barnes and Noble. This special 50th anniversary collector's series set includes all three seasons of WNSD together in a single set, though oddly, according to the back cover, the three holiday specials are not included in this set. There are also no special features. I was a bit disappointed to see the animation was just some goofy stock pose, instead of the actual What's New, Scooby-Doo? animation. www.barnesandnoble.com/w/dvd-whats-new-scooby-doo-complete-series/33761841?ean=0883929677047

They're omitting the holiday specials and no bonus features? That's so mean.

It doesn't feel like a true "complete series" release if the holiday specials aren't included. I guess we'll just have to see...

Oh well, I guess WB works in mysterious ways sometimes (actually, strike that, most of the time haha).

I can't believe they are re-releasing the series cropped to 4:3 again, Warner Bros. clearly couldn't care less about a quality release. The discs count is different, meaning the discs are been mastered again, so there is no reason not to release in widescreen.

If anyone gets this tomorrow, can you let us know if the holiday specials are on there or not?

The is the worst reason I have heard, many TV series were future proofed by been produced in widesceeen, and eventually released in widescreen on DVD. TV series were often shown cropped to 4:3 on TV due to technical limitations or fear of blacklash about black bars. Widescreen is standard on TVs now, due to the move to digital TV. There is no good reason not to release What's New Scooby Doo? in widescreen on DVD, no one will want a cropped version that causes black bars on the sides, when a true widescreen version is available.

Here's two quick videos on the subject of fullscreen vs widescreen with 4:3 TV shows: youtu.be/YL5zOPgLQ40youtu.be/PFIrsitJW5MI understand that with how cartoons are generally made; characters, backgrounds, and such often spill past the edges of the final frame. However, often times when a 4:3 show is "upgraded" to 16:9, the image is zoomed in upon instead of expanded as one would hope - meaning you lose some of the visual information. (Much more severe with 2.35:1 films, but still) Perhaps someone could post some screenshots vs telecast images to end this debate but, until then, I believe that if the episodes originally aired in 4:3, and if Warners keeps putting them out at that ratio, it's probably for the best. The "widescreening" you're referring to may not actually be showing the whole picture, but instead be cropping just to look more aesthetically pleasing on modern monitors & TVs.

What's New Scooby Doo? was produced for widescreen since the beginning, like many other Warner Bros. cartoon series from the 2000s. The complete series of What's New Scooby Doo? is available in true widescreen (not cropped) on iTunes, if you want to check it out.

We have confirmation that they are not on there. Well, that's unfortunate. I wonder if they plan to release them together as a separate set, or would you have to buy all the old "volume _" collections to get the specials as well?

Season 1, 2 and 3 are already three separate sets and they include the holiday specials. IMO it wouldn't make sense to release the holiday specials in a separate set, as it would only be three episodes on the DVD and not worth anyone's money.

Season 1, 2 and 3 are already three separate sets and they include the holiday specials. Thanks! I think I'll look into picking these up instead. I have 2 or 3 of the volumes sets, and was hoping the complete series set would be a quick and easy (and cheap) way to get the entire WNSD show plus the specials - but it looks like that's not the case. I remember really liking the holiday specials and the (separately released) WNSD-cast direct-to-DVD films!
