I don't usually promote my Scoobypedia interviews on here but I would like to plug my interview with Ray DeLaurentis, creator of Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue. This obviously isn't as professionally done as A Podcast Named Scooby-Doo but I hope you still find it informative. A transcript for the interview will be provided later. Ray DeLaurentis Interview

Some interesting notes from this interview for Scooby fans:
Get a Clue was made because WB was displeased with What's New Scooby-Doo and wanted a show that was "completely different" from any previous show
DeLaurentis wasn't a huge fan of Scooby-Doo and understands the criticisms directed at the series. He had more fun writing for the characters he created (i.e. Phibes and his henchmen) than Shaggy and Scooby themselves.

DeLaurentis wasn't a huge fan of Scooby-Doo... Which begs two questions, why was he offered the job and why did he take it?

DeLaurentis wasn't a huge fan of Scooby-Doo... Which begs two questions, why was he offered the job and why did he take it? As stated above, WB wanted a Scooby show that was completely different from everything that came before so offering it to a newcomer made sense. It also isn't hard to figure out why he took the job. Getting a "Developed by" credit on a Scooby series is a good career move. The funny thing is DeLaurentis had previously developed a treatment for a surreal, darkly comedic Scooby series that involved everyone dying. It was mostly done as a joke and he didn't expect anything to come from it but it was passed around a lot at WB. That could be a reason why he was chosen but he mostly chalks that up to being a coincidence.

I don't know about WB, but most of the audience was displeased with Get a Clue, still being fond of What's New SD. I don't think this was what WB executives had in their minds. At least, Get a Clue failure contributed to the creation of SD:MI.

I liked the way Shaggy was written here, in MI I couldn't tolerate Velma's abuse towards Shaggy in the first season. Than we had Daph's obessison over Fred that entire series and one of my least favorite aspects in the new films. I'll stop, even though the person in charge didn't watch the Scooby series I thought the conclusion to the series was good. 13th Ghosts of Scooby Doo wasn't I guess well liked in the fandom but that got a film, it was in my opinion horribly written but got one none the less. Makes me wonder if this series could get one too.

Get a Clue barely has any female characters except that one Swiss villain and her dog (who were very funny). Mystery Incorporated has a lot of awful misogyny in its portrayal of Daphne and Velma (the worst moment being Fred kidnapping Daphne in The Night the Clown Cried).
