Hi everyone this weekend I got the chance to ride the newly refurbished Scooby Doo spooky coaster at Warner Bros movie world on the Gold Coast.
Original ride History (2002-2018)
The original ride was first opened on the 17th of June 2002. It was inspired by the Spooky Island Castle ride featured in the movie, which was actually filmed in the studio lot onsite. Some the original props even made it on to the ride. After 14 years of operation most of the rides interior ghost train theming was striped for being to much of a fire hazard. Heres an original advertisement and behind the scenes look for the ride from 2002.
Spooky Coaster Next Gen (2018)
In early 2018 Village theme parks announced that they would be giving the ride a million dollar refurbishment utilising new technologies such as projection mapping. The renovations would take five months to complete, reopening on the 15th of December just in time for the summer holidays. The new story line follows more closely with the original film predominantly featuring the purple spooky island monsters and Scrappy. the middle of the ride is mostly unchanged other than a few added lighting effects and the vat of souls on the floor. At the end of the ride just like in the movie the monsters get obliterated by the disco skull. when you get off the ride there's a wooden Scooby saying some of Neil Fanning's lines from the original ride.
To be honest when first herd about the renovation I thought they were going to close the ride for good but I was pleasantly surprised that they were giving it a new lease on life and just in time for the 50th anniversary! I never would have thought that I'd be experiencing something new from the live action Scooby franchise especially considering the reputation that they have online, but I still love them and it was great experience to visit that world again in a new way.
Heres a picture of me in front of the ride
And here's the cool Scoob merch I got too.
Thanks and I hope you enjoyed this review.
