I've recently been rewatching the first show, "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!", for the sake of nostalgia, and noticed an interesting detail. At the end of at least two episodes ("A Tiki Scare Is No Fair" and "Jeepers, It's the Jaguaro!"), when the gang is partying after a successful investigation, Velma is shown barefoot while Fred, Daphne and Shaggy are shod. Wonder if it's just a random coincidence, or the creators implied that she is a barefooter (and perhaps that she has a free-spirited/nonconformist streak, given that the series ran in 1969-1970 when going barefoot was often associated with hippies)?

Maybe, but most of the time she's a dedicated fan of orange knee socks, so I think it's just a coincidence.

I think that just to fit her costume. Orange knee socks probably wouldn't work real well with a grass skirt lol.

I doubt it highly, considering that despite her being a liberal, she's still pretty much the most conservative member of the gang. Shaggy maybe but not Velma.

Yes, she was the only one to put on the costume, but it only one instance out of hundreds of other episode where she has her shoes on. I think it safe to assume that she prefers to have shoes.

Well, definitely she doesn't go prefer to go barefoot all the time, but quite often, introverted people like her have a hidden playful/nonconformist streak that shows off from time to time (this can also be inferred from her Hawaii costume). Maybe she likes to go barefoot when she feels like having fun, or for carnival costumes when she can pretend to be someone other than her usual bookish self?
