Hello again. I think this newest Scooby series falls right behind the original one if I ranked them, and just ahead of What's New Scooby Doo. My reason is that this Scooby, like the first one, incorporates the great mystery elements, but with a definitive backstory of the main characters. The first Scooby series introduced us to the iconic monsters, and the plot elements, and for the time, that was enough. SD:MI fills in the gaps. WNSD merely continued the original's premise, but updated it without the backstory of the characters, save for throwing in a relative or two to the characters, but with little backstory.
And, contrary to what some posters have written, I enjoy the 'shipping with Shaggy and Velma in SD:MI because I think it's important part of an of the developing present storyline. Usually, I'm blase about this, but I've never seen this before in Scooby Doo, and because of that, I like it.
My take of the current portrayal of the main characters in SD:MI:
Scooby - He's Scooby, but here I think he's being selfish in not "sharing" Shaggy with Velma. Doesn't he know Velma at all from their adventures together? He should know she's not that bad. (Yeah, I know about her trying to "remake" Shaggy, but I'll get to that in a moment with her)
Shaggy - Still Shaggy, but he's going to have to man up (like he did to Velma over wearing those ridiculous pants she had him wear for awhile) and decide how to handle his buddy and Velma. I don't think it's fair to have him decide between them, and Scooby and Velma should be ashamed to put him on the spot like that.
Velma - Perhaps outside of Fred, the character who's changed the most in this newest incarnation. Girlfriend, you CANNOT try and change Shaggy or any guy like that (you're only proving Scooby right somehow) in a relationship. New pants? Stop saying, "like"? Healthier eating? All of this IS Shaggy. What made you attracted to him in the FIRST place? He was doing these things, you know...
Fred - Like Velma, to me he's changed somewhat. The man always knew something about traps, but here he's beyond obsessed with them. Look at the gorgeous babe Daphne beside you, dude, and share her with your traps, at least (like you're beginning to do, it seems). ;D
Daphne - Perhaps the least changed of the group to me, save for her increased pining for Fred.
Which series would YOU rank first, or last?
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (1969–1970) · The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972–1973) · The Scooby-Doo Show (1976–1978) · Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (1979–1980) · Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (1980–1982) · The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show/The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries (1983–1984) · The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (1985) · A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988–1991) · What's New, Scooby-Doo? (2002–2005) · Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! (2006–2008) · Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (2010-present)
Speculate! ;D
