OK, so this is happening... They're even getting the original voice actresses for the Grimwood ghoul girls! I don't even mind that "modern" art style redesign, as they still look cute. (I don't like calling it the "CalArts Style," as that name is thoroughly inappropriate, as not all cartoonists that utilize the style even went to CalArts, as I pointed out in a Big Bad Wolf rant.) Any thoughts?

I just watched the episode, and I'm honestly still not sure what I think of it. I won't deny that it's SO cool that they're bringing the Girl Ghouls back, especially for the thirtieth anniversary of the film this year. However, the episode lacked an actual plot and just seemed like a bunch of random jokes and interactions crammed together. I love that they chose to go the 'fanservice' route, but when that's all there is, it makes for a bit of a bland episode. I really don't want to hate on it, given how much I adore the original Ghoul School film, but it was just mediocre.
Also, to clarify on Wiley's post above, only three of the original actresses are returning - Sybella, Phantasma and Elsa's. Winnie and Tanis both have different voice actors (as Winnie's is now deceased).

From what I've seen I've feel like the episode is just mediocre. Honestly, don't understand why they brought back the Grimwood Ghouls in a different franchise. Maybe there reintroducing them, because they plan on using those characters for a future movie. I don't watch OK KO as I find the show boring, so I'm not sure if I will be watching this episode. Plus with everyone I've seen saying it just a bland episode, not sure if its worth it.

If it wasn't known in this forum before, Ian Jones-Quartey (creator of OK KO) is an admitted major Hanna Barbera fan in the Cartoon Network Studios area. Before this I know some people wondered if he's eventually going to hop over to Warner Bros Animation like Sam Register and Maxwell Atoms before him. If he worked this episode out, yeah I say that's a possibility for him if Cartoon Network ever tosses his show to the way side.

If Ian is a big HB fan then I would love to see him join Warner Bros Animation, but that would depend on his show. How is that show doing for the network?

I don't really follow too much of CN these days, but I know his name has come up before in those subjects. Some are under the belief he may be the influence for the not too often but occasional references that have popped up in current CN originals, but I don't know for sure if any of that is true. As he might not be the only one that is true of who work currently at Cartoon Network Studios.
On projects like these though I would caution thinking they'd only be capable of their own style. I'm not surprised if the way the Ghoul School girls are done on OK KO wouldn't be exactly what everyone who liked the Ghoul School girls wanted. But I wouldn't rule out the possibility that one day he could help make a new Ghoul School series that would be a bit more retro.
At the very least for people who have been wanting to see those characters again it shows there's people in the Warner Media (currently that is) that think they are usable properties. This also could include what some of us have been talking about for the last year or so if WB wants to be serious about a bigger presence for this part of the library they do need to test out properties that aren't major to see who's actually got some backing. This is one way to help test ideas like that out.

With the 50th anniversary of Scooby Doo being next year, I wouldn't be surprised if they were to reference or even bring back characters from some of their older shows or movies. This could be a way to see who they should bring back based off fan feedback or to create hype for the 50th year anniversary. Either way. I hope we get to see more characters from the show history.

It would be great if they did a callback to another film (preferably the 80s or 90s ones) that actually lived up to the original. This crossover certainly did not IMO, even though it was nice to see the Girl Ghouls featured in something again.

Well, I think the chances of some characters coming back is definitely a bigger possibility. What worries me is if the character they bring back will stay the same in character. One complaint I've heard from this crossover is how some of the ghouls were sorta out-of-character

One complaint I've heard from this crossover is how some of the ghouls were sorta out-of-character That was one of my complaints. Tanis seemed very out-of character, in the sense that she wasn't really sweet or innocent at all and her personality was a bit bland. Sybella also was incredibly out-of-character, and she almost seemed a bit evil (for lack of a better word?) with her eyes turning red in the girls' "show and tell." The rest of the girls seemed okay, but Tanis and Sybella being out of character was a bit jarring.

I was wondering, where the girls older in this episode? I mean, when they were with Enid in the past, she was clearly younger and has aged. As well, Sibella seems drawn older, not to mention she, Phantasma and Elsa are Enid's height.

I'd say maybe teenagers in this then? 14-16?
