So I've been poking around some old podcasts, looking around, and...umm... Well, Look. So you know in Scrappy Days, Mark Evanier says, "In setting the schedule for that year, it had come down to a decision between renewing Scooby or picking up a new series — the pilot script for which I'd written — from another studio." RadioRashy revealed that this studio was Ruby-Spears. "I wrote a pilot for Ruby-Spears..." (Starts at 1:55) radiorashy.com/category/podcasts/I always found it odd that Joe Ruby and Ken Spears didn't show at least a bit of recognition towards the pup that saved their franchise, but I suppose this little secret may provide the answer to that question. Additionally, it gets even more interesting with this quote from Ken Spears: “Scrappy was added later, much to everyone’s displeasure,” Spears said. Now I always wondered about that quote, since he was working for a different company at that time-but considering that Ruby-Spears was not happy with Scooby-Doo's survival, could it be there's something a little deeper to their attitude towards Scrappy-or Scooby for that matter? They seem to love Scooby now, but I suppose stakes were higher back then. www.newsfromme.com/writings/scrappy-days/web.archive.org/web/20080201055716/http://www.homemediamagazine.com/news/html/breaking_article.cfm?article_id=11404

Ruby Spears was originally founded with the intention of creating competition to Hanna Barbera. The relationship between the two studios was cordial (given many freelancers worked at both) but normal. I would imagine this was the biggest dust up there was at the time.
When Filmways sold Ruby Spears to Taft in 1981, all that was pretty much water under the bridge given they were now sister studios and worked together on various projects in the 80s and earliest 90s. Ruby and Spears themselves are pretty happy about their time at HB, give or take the small issues just about every single person has with former employers in Hollywood.
Do we have any info on what that pilot script was that Scooby was competing against? Was it something that got made later or just completely abandoned?

ScoobyAddict herself did an interview to the two, where it mentions they don't like the character. Sure, they're welcome to have their own opinions, but it's on awful callous way to speak of a character who kept alive the franchise that is giving you a lot of fame and respect, and in a different interview one seems to phrase his distaste in a way that seems like it's almost inviting the reader to misinterpret it.
