I always liked Scrappy-Doo when i was a child. I don't know why so much people hate him, i suppose it's because of Fred, Daphne and Velma had left. The Scooby-Doo franchise is not as popular in France, so i don't know people's opinion in my country. I also can find him to be annoying to some degree (maybe too much presence?) but he absolutely didn't deserve so much hate, and even less to ben made the villain of the first movie. It was terribly OOC, i don't even understand how the writers could have written this and find it funny or believable...Scrappy loved his uncle. One more time, i am sorry for my imperfect English. Sadly, the "Scooby-Doo" live-action film writers have publicly said they hate Scrappy and wanted others to hate him as much as they did. I found him annoying in the original 1979 series and the 1980-82 shorts, though I felt like he got less obnoxious (probably the voice choice in part) from 1983 onwards. Personally, two films with Scrappy (Boo Brothers and Ghoul School) are my favorites of the entire franchise, so I don't mind him all that much. And no worries on your English, yours is far better than I am in any other language lol.

Thank you Scrappy is annoying, but he also had several qualities. And it's impossible to hate this:

I think the problem people had with Scrappy was the fact that the writer tried to make him the star of the show, which you should never do. Scooby and Shaggy kinda took a back seat when Scrappy was introduced and when they started to change the format of the show and create shorts they decided to get rid of Fred, Velma, and Daphne, which probably led to more people disliking him.

Because he talked like he was from Queens (NYC) and Len Weinrib sounded like a nasally old actor named Lloyd Nolan๐๐. Scrappy's voice alone -to me- served enough as a source of comic relief by itself; than, to somehow (otherwise) reckon he was worth wasting effort "hating".
I suppose(?): I'm lucky I didn't have to sit-through the first-run airings of the whole Scooby universe and not know whether there was ever going to be light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel post-1978. The first 7 years of the "real show" were already plentiful enough in syndication when I discovered it in 1983 that, I could avoid what I'd seen of the lulls (then on ABC at 10AM Saturdays).

Image being a Scooby Doo fan when Scrappy Doo was finally introduced and becomes an official member of the gang and you not liking him. You would have no idea if Scooby Doo would ever go back to the original format with just Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, and Velma. I'm sure some fans just stopped watching Scooby Doo because of Scrappy and not knowing if they would ever go back. My question to you guys is, if in the future the writer bring in a new character into the show would you like them to keep them there for the rest of the franchise run or would you like them to eventually go back to just being the original five?

Scrappy's portrayal in the live-action movie makes more sense when you remember that it was originally intended as an R-Rated spoof but got edited down to a kids movie by WB. The characters are suppose to be exaggerated, cynical reimaginings which I think got lost in the way WB marketed the movie. For example, Fred is portrayed as completely useless and unappreciative of Velma which doesn't make sense if you see it as a continuation of the characters from the cartoon but makes more sense if you view it as a commentary on Fred's overstated leadership role vs Velma actually being the most useful member. Similarly, Scrappy being an egomaniacal bad guy does not scan with Scrappy from the cartoon but rather as a representation of how Scrappy is viewed by popular culture.

I like to keep everyone on their toes Do you ship April with Skip or with Augie? Neither because it's funnier to have the two just fight over her
