Purpose, perhaps that WB doesn't know what it wants from Scooby Doo bar money, and that may be the root cause, they have no vision for the franchise beyond that of a cash cow. I would agree that's largely the problem here as well. It seems like they're struggling to come up with new ideas yet they're still pumping out the crossovers like crazy. I'm trying to stay optimistic about Gourmet Ghost, but IMO we need more films like Shaggy's Showdown where the whole gang has a role to play that doesn't include celebrity filler.

I feel like it's been 84 years since the last solo movie. They don't usually give Fred, Daph and Velma proper attention when there are no celebrities involved. With these guests, the three of them are almost like scenario prop.

True...however it might be time for a seperation of characters again. The DTVs are supposed to be the main focus as of 2010 right? Well...why not take a break from Fred and the ladies for a bit? That could allow Shaggy and Scooby time to remember that when they want to be they're competent detectives. They could even use Daphne at any point but sparingly use Fred and Velma until a full set mystery happens. Oh wait....WB thinks that's too much work. It's not 1979 anymore, Velma, Daphne and Fred have developed since then and have more of their dedicated fans now, like Scooby and Shaggy have. Writing them out of the show would only upset fans and definitely worsen the franchise's situation. For a casual viewer, the only real Scooby Doo features a full gang! I even think that WB focuses too much on Shaggy and Scooby, so I would go in the opposite direction: more Velma, Daphne and Fred, more relations between the all five, more focus on their friendship. The only thing I would get rid is the flanderization of their characters. Since SD:MI they started becoming more like caricatures of themselves: eg. Fred's ridiculous trap obsession, Daphne's jealousness of Fred, Velma's growing sassiness, Scooby's and Shaggy's exaggerated cowardice etc. Why not to return to their first versions from SDWAY or work on them more and give them the best traits from another of their past incarnations?

I would never axe Daphne out, I wouldn't care if Velma appeared as an occasional guest star from time to time, but Fred is impossible to make into a good character. He is either really bland or is a complete jerk depending on the series or movie. Those Scrappy shorts are the main reason why most viewers hate Scrappy and I wouldn't want the series to make Scrappy look bad again. Scrappy only works when their is a four to five member gang.

We can all dice and slice the show to fit what we want and think that that will fix it, you want 13 Ghosts, I want WNSD etc etc. But this is what we want speaking. There is a more systemic defect to the franchise, that WB haven't got a clue what to do with it any more beyond cranking the handle to make more money. It won't be long before we get a DTV of just Shaggy and Scooby running scared down past a long line of celebrities who throw them food. As for me I'm not getting Gourmet whatever it is unless it gets a overwhelming set of positive reviews, and despite some of the character in Guess Who I hold out little to no hope for that being more than celebrity fan-service. That's if it make it out of the streaming service. As for S.C.O.O.B.? Well the less said about that the better... The only Scooby related thing I get now is Scooby Apocalypse, and my occasional commissioning of Velma fan art. Hmmm guess that means I'm pretty much done with the franchise?

Nah, it's not impossible. It's just the matter of courage (for revolutionary changes in a long existing character) and a good idea. That's what Be Cool SD creators did. In my opinion, Fred was one of the few bright spots in the show.
But, as I wrote earlier, getting rid of any of SD characters is a bad idea, no matter what we think about them. There are people whose favorite member of the gang is Fred. It would be suicidal for the franchise to lose them in an attempt to revise the show. As for me, I personally would stop watching Scooby stuff without Velma and so on.

I would arguably say the issue is a combination of WB being cash-hungry and the fact that everyone wants something different within the franchise. Some people want dark and mature like SDMI, others want a more comedic approach like BCSD, and there's a growing following of Shaphne fans who want something like 13 Ghosts of The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries again. Personally, I would love if they went back to the style of the four revival DTVs (Zombie Island-Cyber Chase). WB is unsure of how to please everyone, but they still want their money, so they're cranking out a million crossovers a year in hopes that being as "safe" as possible will please the general fanbase. This, of course, is alienating more people than it's pleasing, because people are starting to get bored of the constant celebrity crossovers.
Like Russm said, the main issue here is it feels like we're not really going anywhere, especially with the next series being all crossovers. I'll of course remain optimistic, but it would be nice if there was actually a vision for the franchise, or at least new ideas being tried beyond crossovers. I really wish they would go back to the revival era like I said above, as I don't think I've ever seen any Scooby fan say they hate Zombie Island (There probably is, but it's very few and far between).
And now to secretly hope the WB writers' room stumbles across this thread and has a sudden epiphany, lol.

Let's try shock therapy, make Scooby Apocalypse into DTV or mini-series.

I don't mind these crossovers. I'm happy for any new Scooby. I just wish they'd pick guest stars that made more sense.

I never meant to axe them completely as i'm in the Daphne & Shaggy fan section , but i though t just a small break and send them off to the jobs they hold then bring them back like 1983 and 1997 did because sometimes no one ever appreciates something until it's gone. If returning to a past version...WNSD would be the way to go since that version lasted for 13 years (depending on how you count certain specials and film entries and their style) and has the most to work with...even though that still leaves Fred in an akward position.

I mean most children don't watch cooking shows. True, but SD is almost 50 years old, and its audience is comprised of a fair share of adults in addition to its children's audience.
