At one point I think they tried to make Scrappy a precocious child genius-- he created something called "crazy rubber" and had a little computer wristwatch, which he either built himself or had made it for him. Later this role was taken over by little Velma in "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" (perhaps owing to Tom Ruegger's influence, as he worked on both that series and "13 Ghosts").
Did his mother even raise him or was she forever shuffling him off on Uncles Scooby and Yabba? Maybe that might explain some of his issues....

I get some people seem irritated by his recklessness, but I don't see how that deserves a spanking (Something someone else said in another thread) or "commuppance" (Something said by many people, usually in regards to the live action movie? and I don't see how wanting to fight a monster (Remember, he could build traps and he did have super strength) or a very young child idolizing his Uncle counts as "issues" honestly, sometimes, frequenting these threads, it feels like I am talking about a different character then everyone else. What issues? What commeuppance? Also, it doesn't surprise me Scrappy's a genius in the New Scooby Doo Mysteries. Remember, this guy could talk right after he was born.

I'm indifferent honestly. I think anything could be done right, but that's just thing. Scrappy hasn't been done right yet. Despite me disliking Scott Innes's other voices, I think he's the best as Scrappy, not even Messick got him QUITE annoying enough. I like the idea of Scrappy on paper, he's very much the yang to Scooby's yin. But I've yet to see him live up to that idea, and I'd like to give him that chance.

Meh, saying Scrappy is my absolute favorite character would be lying, though I do think he definitely adds something interesting to the gang in the later 1980s episodes with Daphne. I'll admit, the first time I watched the first live-action film, I thought making Scrappy the villain was an interesting twist (though tbh I had seen barely any Scrappy episodes at that point, if any). Hearing that the film creators actually meant to sabotage him is a different story though, and the comments I've read from James Gunn about his intent for Scrappy are admittedly a bit (ok, actually very) immature. I don't think he deserves a "commupance" either, and I find myself a bit bored with them making Scrappy the villain in every appearance after the live-action film. I'm not too surprised about the spanking piece in the comics. Never read many of the older comics myself, but someone was showing me a few of them on my blog a few months ago, and they are incredibly bizarre. There's actually one where Scooby and Shaggy are captured by a Satanic cult threatening to execute them (not kidding!)

Hey guys, guess what? Scrappy cameoed in the Scoobynatural episode! And he didn't die, or act evil or anything! So what did he do? Nothing at all. He was just there for a few seconds during a chase scene, a blink-or-miss it scenario, as cameos tend to be. But let's just focus on the fact that he didn't die! Yay!

Yes, I liked Scrappy, and while he shouldn't be in every iteration he should definitely be in the occasional movie or series and given a chance to show people he's not a bad joke.
