i actually think making velma a lesbian is actually pretty bold. like I said we've never had that kind of relationship in scooby before, and mystery inc pushed quite a few boundaries, in terms of relationships, and connected plots and the like. heck, people actually DIED in the series, when was the last time a character died in Scooby Doo, and stayed dead? Now that could have been interesting. Too bad the the people behind SD:MI missed this opportunity.

Regardless of it being easy to have Velma be portrayed as lesbian/bisexual,I think it’s important for them do so. The relationship between Marcie and Velma is one that’s refreshing to see. Representation is so important, especially to LGBT+ youth. Even if it was never officially canon, I think it was good for them to do so.

Wouldn't say it was easy, the show comes from the US which is where certain vocal groups loose their minds should Starbucks change their Christmas cups in a way they don't approve. So having a clear and public relationship between Velma and HDW in the show, or even an off-screen same-sex relationship would bring out the pitchfork and burning torch brigade.

I think it would be a bold move to make Velma a lesbian and honestly, I think they should. I love Velma and I would love to see her character explored beyond Mega Brain. Her romance angle with Shaggy in Mystery Incorporated felt so weird but Marcie felt natural.

I mean, it's Warners' intellectual property so they can do whatever they want, but here's my 2 cents: A. I agree that with the whole "look" stereotype and such, making Velma lesbian is a little too obvious/easy. And, sorta pushes a negative stereotype that all lesbians look a certain way. and B. You have to be careful with characters that are 50+ years old and have been role models for generations of fans. Fandom can be a hideous beast sometimes, should they feel personally crossed. Sexuality is very important to a lot of people - and not just some 'trait' that should be flip flopped at random just for sh**s & giggles. I think a lot of the backlash we see in America from these sorts of changes is (perhaps) less so outrage at the idea, or more so outrage at the sudden change. Especially when said change could be seen as a soulless, corporate attempt to appeal to a certain political crowd. If a future Scooby show runner, exec, etc. wants more representation in the show, then why not create some new characters that kids & adults can grow to love going forward? So long as they're not Scrappy'd in. That could be annoying. Or, just make some new characters & a new show, no existing franchise ties necessary. Hollywood seems pretty well dry on new ideas anyways. Some fresh blood made with 2020 ideals (as opposed to 1960s ideals) could be pretty neat. Especially 50 years down the line.
