So, I'm gonna cut to the chase. I live in a house built likely in the 1960's. It's small, not very cheery, and apparently haunted. Rumor has it (well actually more than rumor) that before the house I'm living in now was here there was a small lake on part of the 1 acre property, and a barn. The story goes that the barn/house burned - not sure if anyone was in it at the time or died there. The lake was down close to the street, but the old barn was apparently right where the house is now. Just interesting. Plus, before my immediate family moved in to the house, an old couple (that also built the house) lived here. Then my grandmother's mother and aunts moved in; there were 3 of them. At least 1 may have died in one of the bedrooms, but I don't think I've ever seen an old woman ghost. Here's what I did see clearly one time.
So this happened like 9-10 years ago. I was probably about 10-12 at the time, I'm 20 now. It was about midnight. I was walking out of the "den" and into the "foyer/hallway". The living room, to the left, was dark, and there were no lights on in the hallway or foyer. I glanced to the left and saw something coming out of the living room, heading the way I was going. I got a pretty good look at it: from what I can remember, it was a middle aged or older man. He looked old fashioned, perhaps a moustache; imagine watching a 1940's or 1950's era black & white movie and you get the picture. I didn't see much or any hair. I think he was wearing something nice, like a bow tie - or perhaps a tie - and maybe some nice top or suit/coat. "It" was moving fast. But here's the thing, there were no legs. I think that he also had long long ghostly arms that didn't look quite human; the arms faded and there were no hands. In fact, that's pretty much it; the whole image faded below the waist or even above that. I saw his face pretty clearly, but it didn't mean much to it; as a little kid I had seen a lot of black & white old fashioned movies, and that was/is the only thing I could see that the "ghost" looked similar too. Then I ran to my grandma's lit bedroom, and I haven't seen the ghost ever since. The ghost itself didn't look scary really, but the way it moved in a fast motion and its long disappearing arms creeped me out.
So that's the most clear image of a for-sure ghost I've ever seen. I can't honestly say rather my house is "haunted" in any true sense of the word; but certainly in the past weird unexplained things have happened. For instance, there have been several instances through the years where my grandmother has awoken in her dark room and looked up to see a "man" (her words, but it was certainly a ghost - no man lived in the house) standing in her room. Whether it was the same guy as the tall long arm thing I saw in the hallway is any one's guess.
She's also seen on several occasions a small child, I think a girl, "walk" through the bathroom, seemingly from nowhere, to nowhere. Through doors, walls, etc. She also saw it walk into a small closet, with the door shut.
But none of us have actually seen anything legitimately looking like a person in say 2-3 years. But we have seen other things/experienced odd things in the house.
For instance, especially when I was younger, I used to see lots of weird movement in various spots; nothing looking like a human or any animal, but these orb like things, sometimes "looking" around the corner at me, in a dark opening, or "swimming" near the cealing in various rooms. Imagine catching a flash of electricity out of the corner of your eye, and that's about as close as what I can describe it. I haven't seen as much in recent years, possibly because I've tried not to/lost any fear of it.
Other times I've been lounging around or walking around and suddenly it's gotten much colder than the room temperature, often fading if I walk away and gone when I come back or naturally fading. Really used to give me goosebumps. One thing real quickly on the orbs and stuff; apparently, according to one of my mom's old boyfriends, I had a special "psychic power" where I could like see people's auras (he said he had the power as well and went off on these really wild stories of how he stopped some girl from doing something "evil" with her powers in college.) and the weird ceiling creature-orbs. He said my grandmother shared the power, but my mom did not. I actually believed him, and what I saw validated what he said. To this day I think that the stories he told me weren't totally false.
I'm so sorry that you all have to read all this, but I'm on one of those binge real-life story telling posts. Get used to it lol
Last thing for this post; so my grandma used to be good friends with a lady who lived across the street. She had colon cancer and died. We all adored her, and since I'd been into her house many times (she said she had had several paranormal experiences too, albeit more heartwarming than our's) I knew what her house smelled like and what she smelled like. I guess it was something she used on her. LOL I was only like 10-11 years old at the time. So the night she died, we were all up near midnight. I walked from the dining room into the living room and voila! I smelled her. (She had not come our house in a long time.) I went to get my grandma, and she smelled the dead woman too! My mom didn't smell anything, but again apparently she doesn't have as many paranormal experiences as we do. She said she smelled something at the time, but by then the woman's scent was fading. I thought that the lady loved us so much that she was coming to tell us goodbye. About a week or two later, when I was in Florida, my mom was in bed thinking about the old lady and suddenly she smelled her too! My theory is that she chose to say goodbye to each of us sort of one by one; me first, since she loved me most, then grandma, then lastly mom. So that wasn't as scary, more heartwarming, but you could classify it as paranormal too.
What say you all?
