Variant cover for issue #9 Yeah, it's pretty cool, Rafael Albuquerque, the artist of this cover, posted a few WIPs and parts of the finished one on Instagram. A few extra info on this issue. The title is "Velma's Secrets Exposed!", as issue 8 lets us know, and J.M. DeMatteis, writer, said on Twitter "Just finished scripting a dark and emotional Scrappy-Doo story"; according to the comments he replied to, this story is an extra one for #9, possibly another segment of "The Adventures of Scrappy-Doo & the Scrappy Gang!". Maybe this is the story titled "The Center Cannot Hold!" that #6 said?

Very good issue, no action but the story moves on well, interesting cliff-hanger. Very interesting and quite touching Scrappy story, way better than the last one. We find out why Scrappy hates Scooby, and we were all wrong about it.
One thing I didn't see was the title of the next issue which given they moved #10 to #11 may mean they were still workign on the story when the issue went to press.

Scrappy hates Scooby because he sees him as a "soft-hearted weakling".
Also, the scene with the starving, emaciated puppy was heartbreaking. The artwork really sold the pathos.

Scrappy hates Scooby because he sees him as a "soft-hearted weakling". Also, the scene with the starving, emaciated puppy was heartbreaking. The artwork really sold the pathos. More complex than that, Scrappy blames Scooby as Scooby was a failure at being a smart dog. His reasoning is that if Scooby had been successfully transformed into a smart dog then he, Scrappy, would still be a puppy, not a experimental bio-weapon with implants that are on the fritz. Totally agree with the pet shop scene, also gave Scrappy a depth of character that he deserved.
