Thanks to leonel for posting this article on his site, Scooby-Doo! network Center Argentina: Google translation: Casey Kasem, 82, was on hand to give voice to Shaggy until 2009, marking the movie Scooby-Doo! and the sword of the samurai as their last performance (although for Mystery Inc. back in another character). With a long career in radio as Casey Kasem is hospitalized in critical condition in a hospital in Washington, United States. The man is receiving antibiotics and medications to stabilize blood pressure. What gets called Lewy body dementia, third cause of dementia after Alzheimer's disease and vascular. His family said that they could be their last moments if his health continues to deteriorate in this way. This has me depressed all day... His loss, if it happens, will be huge... I hope he can survive... Let's all pray for the talented man who lent his voice to our favorite Shaggy.

its not looking good at all from what i've been reading, the judge who granted his daughter control of him said that he 'may be in his final hours' and his daughters seems to think so as well.

I fear he may not be with us much longer. Apparently his daughter wanted to hasten his death by denying him basic needs. She would benefit from his death because of her poor economic standing. He is now back under his wife's care where he will be properly fed, medicated and hydrated. May that poor man rest in peace. He's been through so much trouble recently, I wonder how he feels about it all...he must really be suffering. Casey Kasem will always be the one and only Shaggy. No other actor could ever come close or do the character justice. Mathew Lillard pales in comparison. He will live on through his voice work and will entertain children of generations to come.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Kasem. I knew his family situation was bad, but it seems like it's really taken a turn for the worse now.

It is specifically stated in his wishes to not be kept alive if he has no chance at a "quality life", which is the conclusion his physicians have come to. The courts have sided with his daughter, who is willing to observe his wishes. It's controversial, for sure, but if the written, legal documentation exists, it's really only fair that Casey gets his way. And, from how it sounds, Casey will probably not make it through the weekend.

its the wife thats been the troublemaker here, imo. shes let her spat with caseys first set of kids blind her to whats most important- taking care of Kasey. and it seems that once he dies the war between her and the kids will begin in earnest- and it will be very ugly.

You realize that he signed a health directive saying that if he was in a vegetative state he wouldn't want to stay?

ou realize that he signed a health directive saying that if he was in a vegetative state he wouldn't want to stay? End-of-life care (or palliative care) is potential medico-legal minefield where the courts often have to step in and make decision. It important that the patient's wishes are well know so should they want a DNR on their notes (a Do Not Resuscitate) or similar instructions under what circumstances medication is to be withheld they are clearly known and understood. There are no winners in these cases, especially when the patient is incapacitated and only has their living will to speak for them.
